New to this, please help! Making my first mame cab.
« on: October 20, 2008, 11:59:49 pm »
I have a Sega line of fire machine. I previously asked if these "guns" could be connected to the PC for Mame purposes and was told no.

BUT it turns out theses are not light guns but a mounted gun with two axis of movement (u,d,l,r). So this should be possible to connect to PC as it must be some kind of analogue joystick, possibly just a potentiometer.

Anyone done this before? Any suggestions?

All help appreciated.

Thanks.

Thats strange, someone with your exact forum name has another thread regarding the exact same thing.

I would check his thread  >:D

But anyway man, imaging those guns like a toy glued to a joystick.....now imagine the calibration required for each game in order to make it properly work. So many variables like screen size, control panel distance & angle.....it never ends....& if you do get it set up after countless hours of trying it will only work on that game.

Nah, it's me. I'm a noob to forums!

Not convinced, I have set up many analogue devices on mame. Such as wheels, spinners, pedals etc. Mame has a pretty good analogue control function (if you download the right version).

The point of this thread is to see if it is possible to connect the "guns" to the pc. If it's not possible I'll give up now, if it is possible I'll worry about calibration later...

Thanks for your help!

If it's like you say, and given your experience, then wire it up to some analogue controller and try it.

noob

you've certainly got the forum lingo down.

from what you say it sounds like you can just wire it like a joystick and add a button wire for the trigger.
