Thank You.
« on: October 20, 2008, 08:53:47 am »
Well I did it! I ordered my cab last night from Mameroom built to my specs.  :burgerking:

I am a little nervous putting down that kind of cash but I am hoping the end result will be worth the price of admission.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me so far in making decisions and entertaining my questions, no doubt I will have many more in the coming months here.

I look forward to getting this thing and making it my own, can't wait!

Ps. Don’t worry; I will be sure to post some pix when she arrives. Hope to have her home for the holidays, well at least Christmas. =]

2 player or 4 player?

Does it have a artwork theme?

fill us in.

If the stock market didn't basicly take a dump on me I would love to finish my project but on hold right now for diapers and food.

You and me both. At this rate my cabinet will be done sometime near the end of 2009.

I am proceeding with my build(s), and don't eat much anyway or have any bathroom problems, so I could afford the outlay.

Damn......and I thought my cab was expensive.  Let me guess, probably going to have at least $3000 in yours?  Good for you.  Your going to have one hell of a machine there.

Enjoy!

I built the PC, that was about $1,500 and Mameroom is handling (most) of the rest. I'm in 3g just with them so when it is all said and done, close to 5.

I know I went overboard on the PC but this was originally going to be a media center PC which I am still looking into the idea of using it for maybe both tasks.

I am emulating everything more or less so I wanted a pretty high end system for Dreamcast, PSX and such.

ps. You got pix of your cab Flake other than the avatar?

Thats not going overboard on the PC at all, infact you will need to overclock it to play some of the Mame games at full speed. Still killer specs there

Make sure you have a really good cooling system if you overclock and have the PC inside your cab!

Only a couple on this computer.  I have a few more of the work in progress at home but not really even many of those.  I have never really thought to take many pictures of my cab during the build process and only took some of the finished product to respond to another person in these forums.  Should have documented the build process more as it would probably have helped me on future projects to be able to refer back but I was eager to finish.

Is that a Dream Authentics build?

No the cabinet is a Killer Instinct 1 Cab I got from an auction.  I sanded it down, bondo'd the areas that needed it and painted it with a commercial spray gun.  The monitor is a Toshiba 27" flat panel and the control panel is from Arcades R Fun.  My cab costs me about $1850 or so this way with over half the costs going into the computer and control panel.  I looked at Dream Authentics for a long time before finding this website but never pulled the trigger due to their high costs.  The best they could do i think was a used Eladius cab for about $2300 but the real deal killer is the shipping costs - $400 to get to my house.  With the amount of money your are forking over I suppose you took a hard look at them but rest assured you are getting a unit that will far surpass their $5000 unit.

The only thing about my cab that would have been better in going with Dream is that I would have a real arcade monitor but to be honest I am super pleased with my TV.  Plus my control panel is better than Dream could have given me for that price and my computer is much better than what they would have supplied.  I also like the Maximus Arcade FE better than the Dream FE.

Anyway, post some pics when you start getting things put together.  I am very interested to see what $5000 gets you.

I spoke with Dream Authentic and they where very nice to me but decided to go with Mameroom for a few reasons. Hopefully in the end I will have made the right choice.

Between $4,500 and $5,000 is a lot to part with, I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination but am a firm believer in you get what you pay for on a whole. This is something I don’t plan on buying another one of anytime soon so I really wanted to not cut any sort of corners when getting exactly what I wanted here. I imagine I could have saved anywhere between $500 to $1000 if I built it all myself but, I really can’t be bothered not to mention I have no work working skills or types of tools. I have already spent countless hours configuring software for this thing…

When I put the PC together, the cabinet was an after thought and that is the reason why it was so much. Spending money on something like a Antec Nine Hundred case was maybe not the best choice when no one will even see it. =]

All in all time will tell if this was worth the extra money I put out so I guess we will just all have to wait and see.

Ps. The figures I posted here so include shipping.
