Mala Layout Question - Definable1
« on: October 17, 2008, 04:41:30 pm »
Is definable1 only available in the MAME layout?  I see where you can set it up in the MAME portion, but it does not show up under options in the Other EMU configurations.

I am trying to convert a MAMEWAH Nintendo layout and it has a space for cartridge, box, and two snap shots.  I am using marquee for box, control panel for cartridge, snap/title for snap 1.  I tried to use video for the second snap, but it did not work.  Guessing that it is looking for a .avi file.  So I setup definable1 to be the second snap under the MAME options.  I do not get anything displayed in the layout though.  I swapped the snaps and they both work, but only under snap/title, nothing ever displays under definable1.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the definables displaying in the Other Emu layouts already. That was the easy bit.

Decisions I am yet to make are:

1) Am going to have common directory paths for all 'other emu's' or paths per 'emu' yet..
Does anyone care?  :dunno

2) Where to save this data?. The emu files *.mle probably won't be backward compatible after this. I could save in the mame.ini if all other EMU's shared the same the same directory paths I guess  :dunno

Just my current pondering.....

I think it's better to have it per-emu. I think doing it "right" is more important than being able to go back to a prior version of mala. I can't remember if mala has an actual installer. If so, you might want to have it back up config files on upgrade. If not, at least put a warning by the download link. That's my 2 cents.

Wow, I want this feature too!

My head hurts too much right now to add any value with discussions about the architecture... I'm sure you'll work it out though loadman :)

Thanks again

It's happening and it works allready.   ;)

Just working through methods of saving the new config the 'right way' so that I don't screw up peoples current emu settings.
