Made some MALA Layouts and they are not showing up. *solved*
« on: October 15, 2008, 11:03:56 pm »
Hi there guys.  I have never before used MALA.  I tried my hand at making some MALA layouts and one shows up just fine, the other however doesn't.  What am I doing wrong?  By the way, these MALA layouts are on different PC's.  The layout backgrounds are show below.  The Black vertical Donkey Kong layout shows up with no problem, the Red Donkey Kong Jr. Layout doens't show up at all.  I checked to make sure that the orientation was correct and all that jazz.  Please help a guy out.

Thanks ahead of time.

Have you checked this out  :dunno

http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Mala_Layout#F.A.Q.

Hi this may not be the issue but I also notice that one of your layouts is vertical. Are you aware that in the editor the settings changes one one orientation are not set on the other?  You have to set them individually

Do they not show in the editor, or when youre in MaLa?

If its in the editor then its prolly a 90° issue (like loadman said) or a path problem.  When I got the 90° thing wrong in the editor, I would get my text colors and all showing up with my boxes in the correct relative spot, but no pics.

If its in MaLa itself, then you need to tinker in the Layout tab.  Maybe you dont have everything placed in a single layout folder?  If its just MAME and one layout, you prolly shouldnt be using tree, BTW.  Especially if youre just figuring this stuff out.

Hi there loadman and system01, thanks for the imput.  The Donkey Kong Vertical show up and works just like I want it to.  The Donkey Kong Jr. that I made will not work if I keep it red.  If I make the backaground black it works but, I loose some of the outlining which kinda makes things look bad.  When I keep it red and load MALA the entire background is red and I don't see all of the art that I took pains to include.  Both show up in the editor perfecetly.  BTW, as I am a noobe I decided not to use tree.  Thanks for the ideas, and thanks for any help provided ahead of time guys.

Hey there again.  I'm not sure what I did but they are now displaying perfectly.  Must be some kinda strange learning curve I have.  Thanks guys.

Did you have Transparency turned on?  Although MaLa supports transparency, it doesnt use alpha-blending and used a sort of "find edges" instead, making it look chunky.

Another thing that comes to mind is that under the Layout tab, theres a checkbox with something to the effect of "Use files that have the same layout name".  If you have that checked, all your image files have to match the naming convention of the MLL.  I suggest leaving it off since your just starting out.
