LED-Wiz+GP Question
« on: October 13, 2008, 01:24:01 pm »
I have a LED-WIZ/GP board, and am wanting to use the input part of the board, have used a LED-WIZ before for LED lighting, but never for keyboard input, as ive always had a I-PAC. I have looked on the Groovygamegear site, but cant see any info on what sort of features the input side has, does it have a shift key function like the I-PAC etc??

There is no dedicated shift function on the LED-WizGP.  However, you can pretty simply define any of the inputs as a "shift" function from within MAME, if that's what you'll be using it with.

So i would be about to set up say, P1 start button as the 'shift button' then hold this down and press say P1 button 1 so it adds a credit, or button 2 to bring up the mame in game menu, much like the I-PAC does??

Exactly.  The only limitation to this method is that it is restricted to apps which support it.  I believe Xpadder and RBJoy will allow this as well, for apps which don't do it directly.

Cool. How do you setup a button as 'shift' within MAME then?

Cool. How do you setup a button as 'shift' within MAME then?

Go to the setup screens (TAB) and start defining your shifted functions by first pressing the button you want to use as shift and then the shifted button immediately thereafter.  You should see a definition something like "BUTTONx AND BUTTONy".  Use the same button for shift with all of your shifted functions and you'll have the same functionality.  BTW, this method works for pretty much any controller, not just the GP-Wiz.

You can also do this by directly editing the config files, but I'll leave that explanation up to those a little more into that aspect of the software than I am at the moment.
