Looking for Power Cable Extension w/Mounting Brackets?
« on: October 10, 2008, 02:41:53 pm »
Does anyone know where I can get one of these:

but with an end like this that is meant to be mounted on a panel or something:

I'd really love to see one with a switch on there too... I'm trying to extend the plug from a power supply to an exterior panel.

Thanks!!!

I've only seen those on older power supplies (non ATX) that are 300watts or less.

Did you need the cord or the power supply itself?

Check out [this] thread.

Thanks for the link.  The one you used on your I/O panel for the cocktail would be perfect.  Same goes for the one from lizardlick that mountain pointed out if the switch came in black.  I really like the snap-in version though.  If I ended up having one shipped from the UK would there be a voltage problem or something?  Do you guys use the same plugs we do?

You will be fine with that. Its the same common euro plug (or kettle plug as I like to call them :)) that are used on PSU's etc.

Ill be getting a few bit from Maplins soon. If you want I could pick one up for you and send it over, I can probably post it cheaper than they would charge you.

Thanks buddy!  I might take you up on that.  I just tried ordering one and they wanted $87 (51 pounds) for it!!  I'm going to finalize the layout of my I/O panel tomorrow and I'll use the dimensions of that plug in my layout...

:o They wanted how much?  :laugh2:

Ive sent a fair few things over to the US and I would be suprised if it more than $10 at the max. Most small packets I have sent over have been $4-$8, certainly not $87.  :D

Just give me a shout if you do want one and Ill get it sent over.

javeyh,
They sell one that is all black. It is the more expensive one on that page (directly below the one with the red switch) and it comes with with a built in EMI filter. Look at my jukebox thread, I used this same one on the it.

haha... thanks for the info everyone!  They wanted 2.78 pounds and the rest in shipping and VAT.  Incredible.  I finally found the part in mouser's catalog for $5.85 so I'm going to order from them.  Here is the PRODUCT LINK and DATA SHEET if anyone is interested.  I like the "snap-in" look of this instead of the screws even though there will be other screws on the I/O panel when it is all said and done.

Thanks for the offer to send one over Franco!  I'm going to be sending you a chicken scratch drawing to put into a CAD file if you don't mind for the layout of the panel though.  It will be a rectangle with a bunch of holes in it which hopefully isn't too hard to do...

No probelmo.

Obviously I know the dimensions of the PSU socket but ill need accurate dimensions of the other components so that every thing fits when you get it lazer cut. If you could get hold of a vernier caliper, if you dont have one already, it would be very useful.

I have all of the measurements of each of the openings down to the 1/10 of a millimeter from mechanical drawings provided on the manufacturer's website (frontx).  The only thing I'm not sure of is the placement of these openings in the I/O panel itself - I may leave that up to you since I can't produce a drawing to scale on my end if that's OK.  Thanks a lot - this is a huge help and I think it will look quite professional once everything is finished.
