How to update Mame sets?

Is ther a step by step procedure somewhere on how to update your rom list with mame update packs?

You need to use Clrmamepro which can be confusing.  You may want to google for tutorials for it.  Some web sites, that have other types of files and downloads, have step by step instructions with pictures to show you exactly what to do.

What version of roms do you have and what do you want to update to?  You also need the dat file for the version you are going to update to.

This is actually a really good question.  I just got Clrmamepro the other day and it's not very intuitive to say the least.

Question... is it against the rules to explain how to do updates since this deals with ROMS?

I'm off to the wiki and to do some searches because I'm in the process of trying to do this myself too.

Its fine to explain the program and how to use it as long as you don't link to the roms.

And saying it's not very intuitive is an understatement!  Anyone who can use that program without being taught how or reading instructions is a genius.

Heh - I'd started writing a command-line replacement in perl many years ago, and backed off because of the sheer level of insanity.  I might take it up again just because ClrMamePro is *still* not cross-platform.  You can wine it, but I'd rather have an actual cross-platform app.

I went bald last year pulling my hair our out when trying to get it to rename some ROMs. I have mutiple ROM sets for various game platforms that need renamed but can seam to figure out how to do it.

The tutorial that I found is pretty good as I had no problems following it AND it worked the first time.  I will work on borrowing from it and putting it here and in the Wiki.

The one I saw doesn't come up when I googled it though.  I did see a Youtube video.  That may help.  Turns out its in Spanish though.
