Dynamo Bigboy Cabinet
« on: October 04, 2008, 05:47:35 pm »
Here's another cab I found from a guy in my town. What's the story on these? Good deal? Pricing? Good for mame? Kinda different shape? Here's a quote from him

Quote:
"Come to think of it, I have a couple of really cool cabinets that we had about 8 or 9 of - they have a 25" monitor in them, can be switched from Vertical to horizontal orientation. They also have a drawer system so you can access the components from the front of the game and don't have to pull the game from the wall. They are a bigger cabinet, but if you are doing a mame system, this would be ultra cool.

Attached is a brochure for the type of cabinet. They are in really good shape - there may be a bit of chipping on the very base of the unit, but the rest of the cabinet is generally really nice.

I have one with a weaker monitor in it - $300 and one with a better monitor is $400 or both for $600 - I don't have those here on-site. I can even deliver it for you as well to your house (but not up or down any stairs! Leave that to you!) Double check the dimensions to ensure it will fit - but this would seriously be the best and most impressive mame cabinet.

Seems like a nice unique design - the UK BAS or Silverline generic cabinets had a similar 'pedestal' design with footrests at the sides, but still had complete sides from top to bottom. I would imagine it's comfortable to play and there should be plenty of room for what you need to install. After all, most upright cabs are 80% empty space inside.

Ya it seems like it's practically ready to go..bit scared of the dimensions of it as it probably won't fit through my door. Trying to get as much info as I can before making a decision. Not entirely sold on the shape...

If you are looking for just general impressions to help you decide, I don't like it.
It looks like a payphone from the not-too-distant future as it was envisioned by people in the 1960s.
But worst of all, the dramatically sloping CP makes my wrists hurt just looking at it!
That said, for commercial applications the front-access design is quite ingenious.
Hope this helps.

Eric.

Thx for the input eric. I don't like the shape either. I think I like it just for the ease of converting it to mame. It also has a rotable screen and it's jamma ready. The guy owns an arcade and has a bunch of cabs, so I'll probably see what else he has that might be a better fit, and probably a cheaper price too. It reminds me of some sort of terminal at the airport or something  ::)

I think it's a cool design, except for two things: the sloped panel like eric said, and that your feet would likely bump the bottom trying to reach hit. However, a panel coming off where the panel is now could be much cooler.

Went and checked one of the Dynamo cabs today and he had actually changed the control panel to a flat style one already. But the cabs are friggin huge and goddy. Too bad cause it was in awesome shape and he has a whole bunch of em. Think I might go the build from scratch route :) Just gotta get some more motivation and a couple more tools haha. Thx guys!

Living in the UK just seems a bummer when it comes to accommodating arcade machines.
