hello! my first jamma cab
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:45:07 am »
hi there!

i just bought a jamma cabinet and am going to do it up. i've not done this kind of project before and was happy to find your forum. i'm sure the minds here will be a very helpful resourse, and maybe i'll have something to offer here and there once i get going.

check the cab below.
the monitor isn't working and there is no game, plus i'm not sure if the coin mech is working.

anyone know if there is a story behind this cabinet, or is it just a generic box?
if it's just a box i might go ahead and put all new graphics on there as well..

WHOA. That art is cool. That's too elaborate to be just a generic... though could be bootleg. Nothing in KLOV, nothing on ArcadeFlyers.  Mysterious!

hi RayB thanks for checking it.

i guess it's a bit of a mystery then! the only game i can find with Amazon in the title is Soldier Girl Amazon by Nichibutsu from 1986, but it's vertical. hmmm...

i guess the first thing to do is get the monitor working.  ;D

WHOA. That art is cool LOUD.

...but interesting. Might not wanna ditch it, for authenticity's sake. Or at least get scans of it to pass on to the art folk.

^ yeah BABY  ;D

ok here's the side:

i think it's just a generic jamma cab that could have had anything in it. i confirmed this with a guy who was selling a game on ebay and his test machine had that same crazy austin powers hoops. haha

the monitor in there is a broken wells gardener.

i see in the monitor section they don't have the best reputation. what's gonna be a good replacement? i like the idea of keeping it as a full jamma machine. haha.. an adventure!

Its a generic cab based on the "silverline" design in europe. Suzo used to sell them donkeys years ago.  The CP is very cheap to get bent at any local sheet works. Only problem with those generic euro cabs is the bezel art was usually screened onto the back of the glass. Bugger to get off. Acetone gets it off with a little elbow grease. The fumes are nice too :)

yeah that's exactly right, it has the graphics screened onto the back of the glass. so i'll need 2 tubs of elbow grease and some paint thinner. ok..

the cp seems to be in pretty good condition, unclips and folds open ok.

there's some woodwork to be done as well, new graphics, new t-moulding and i think i'll add new joysticks. the jamma cables seem ok except the actual connector looks a little flakey.

and the monitor.. and a game. then i'll be running! haha

Give VIDEOTRONICSUK a call for a monitor. They do great deals on recond arcade monitors. W&G do a great 19" arcade monitor (u3000) and its supports SVGA. Picked one up from them for my old silverline for £65. Takes the hassle out of adding mame to a jamma setup.

I love those old euro sticks great for beat 'em ups!

i had an empty machine very similar to yours, it had artwork for Euro Football Champ on the control panel, marquee and on the front glass panel, i have the glass panel with the artwork stuck to the back still (yellow border then black then green with footballs round the screen, says europa coin at the bottom and has 3 boxes at the top with instructions etc in them) 655mm x 655mm.
to be honest its going to the skip soon so if your interested in having it (for free) as long as you can pick-up or whatever you can have it with marquee too (i've just binned the psu and jamma connector bits, i need to get rid of my junk)

bought the cabinet not working off ebay (it looked a LOT smaller in the listing  ) for £1 and it had Golfing Greats and Silkworm inside it, so got my moneys worth, i live in Preston, Lancashire if anyone wants the bits (be quick though)

yeah it was a bit of a job getting mine up to the second floor in a glasgow tennament flat!
(took 3 guys)

i'd be interested in your monitor if it works, i've no room for another cab right now.. unfortunately!

** might be an idea to post that in the free stuff thread in buy/sell/trade evil homer **

OK !

i'm back on this project. I had another cab that was working but have just sold it to Franco from blingstix - and that's freed up a little cash to get this one running.

i've contacted videotronix about a monitor to replace the a wells gardner arcade monitor, model no: 19K7689 120v 60hz 85w max, 19"  but he said he only "hitachi med res 19/20in monitors" .. i'm not sure they would have the same connectors.

if anyone could take a look at the pic below and tell me,

will most arcade monitors fit the plug i circled ? how about if i buy a new one from happ - would it have that plug? also .. please clue me in on power to monitors.  :)

i really just want to plug something into the cab, not electricute myslef and not have to discharge a tube or do anything with welding capacitors onto a circut board. just plug and play! (or as near to that as possible) .. maybe that's impossible.

 ??? ;D

we'll see i guess.
