Has anyone ordered from Betson before?
« on: June 13, 2003, 07:24:41 pm »
I placed an order (re-furbished trackball) on their website Tuesday and have not heard anything from them at all.  The order just shows on ther site as "Not Shipped".  It is strange that the shipping came out at $0.45 but, if it is an error, I should still have heard something from them.

Anyone has any prior experience with them?

Thanks.

I haven't ordered from them yet but plan on it.  Have read elsewhere that the shipping charge you describe, 45 cents, is typical and not an error.

Good!
That part is fine, then.
I wonder why they even bother to charge anything at all.
I'll take it.

Now let's hope they deliver.

I obviously got mine... I think I was waiting for a tracking confirmation and then my package showed with my refurb tball in it... *Shrug*

But that was 8 months ago, so my memory might be skewed and I don't remember how long it took to get to me...

As bad as their customer service may seem I'm sure it isn't as bad as Wico's customer service. I can't even get them to send me a damn catalog ! Wico must be doing awfully well if they can afford to discourage and chase away potential customers.  :P I even had the company that I work for call them to order a catalog and and again thay said they would send one but I never got it. What the farg is Wico's problem ? ???

I liked my order from Betson. I got my trackball for free! My credit card was not charged for about 2 months after I got my trackball so being the honest person I am, I called them and told them I got the trackball but did not get charged. They looked it up and said you are right, thanks for pointing that out. I then gave them my credit card number again and expected it to be on my next bill but it never came! I tried. I can only do so much.

Well, I see a pattern here.
The order already shows "Shipped" but my credit card shows no charge (maybe it will be effective the next business day).
The weird thing is the order total shows ($4.40) in parenthesis, meaning negative.  It looks like they are not only going to send me the thing for free, they are also going to send me $4.40 for my troubles  ;D
But seriously, what they seem to have is severe software and logistics problems.
I'm glad for you and your free trackball.
Was it the re-furnished one or new?

It was a new PS/2 model. I made a seperate box for it but I can't get the middle button to register in mame. I have tried many different drivers. I don't want to have to hack my IPAC into the cab with connectors. Anyone get the middle button working?

Hack the IPac?
Why would you?
If you get desperate, what you would need is to use a mouse hack (PS/2 or USB) and by pass the trackball iterface altogether.

The latest on my order:
I received today an invoice in the mail stating the shipping at $8.03.
Obviously, I did not appreciate that, so I sent them an e-mail requesting they change it back to the original.
We'll see what happens.

I mis-spoke. I meant I would not want to take it out of my joystick box and put it in the cab. Then I would have to rewire it to use connectors so I could use the IPAC for both boxes. (Interchangable cp's) I just wanted 3 buttons on the trackball cp. Sorry. Didn't mean to confuse.

I attempted to order from Wico but I cancelled the order. It was when I first started building my mame cabinet. I placed the order online which was sketchy to start with. Then several days went by and i hadn't heard anything. Nothing about a price or shipping cost or anything. So I called them up and they said sure it was ordered but the buttons were on back order so I gave it 2 more weeks and still nothing had shown up. So I called them again and they told me the joysticks were now on backorder. I got pissed and frustrated and canceled the order. I don't think they like dealing with people wanting to order $30 of parts from them. They prefer the larger companies ordering $1000+ at a time.

I bought a 3" TB and a 2 1/4" TB directly from wico, plus minor junk (total <$80 before shipping).  Shipping was $7 for UPS ground, and I wasn't charged for taxes here in California.  Order was in July 2002.

The order arrived very quickly, sooner than I expected.  IIRC, I was thinking a week, and it arrived in 5 days; they had to ship it the same day I ordered.  They didn't do much communication, though, so I didn't know it was shipped until I received it.

I never got a catalog, although they threatened to send one (I didn't ask for it).  *shrug*  The online catalog looks like a scan of the 2002 catalog, and the picture in the "request a catalog" still is the 2002 catalog, so I doubt the one you'd get is any different from the one online.

I'd buy from them again, all things considered.
