Problem with MaLa and Dpad PSX parallel port adapter

OK so I got MaLa all set up and I realy like it. The only issue I have is that I can't use my sticks to go through the game list. Here is what happens: In teh MaLa control panel my joysticks show up and always being held down and to the right. If I move the sticks up or to the left, then they show centered.

The sticks work fine in MAME, but if I try to use them to scroll in MaLa, the list just scrolls

I'm using a MegaTap interface into the Parallel port. Win98SE (Fresh install, no internet or updates) The hacked pads are PSOne digital pads.

MaLa and MAME work great, I just would rather use the sticks to nav through the game list than the spinner.
