Trackball does not work ingame?
« on: September 29, 2008, 07:16:07 pm »
I recently had my whole system set up and running correctly.  A chip went out in my happ trackball so I bought a new one and installed it and my trackball is working perfectly again.  I can use it as a standard mouse in windows along with my logitech mouse.  I can also use the happ trackball and logitech mouse in Mala while selecting games.  The problem is that once I am in a game like shuffleboard or horseshoes the happ trackball does not work.  The Logitech mouse and the joystick works still though.  Is the logitech mouse overriding the happ trackball or something?

It is probably a quick fix but I cant for the life of me figure it out.
I used UncleT's how-to to set it all up and like I said it was working just fine a while back.  Probably some setting that I might of screwed up.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Fritzy

Have you tried opening up the controls menu in MAME and just resetting the mouse to your new trackball?  If you changed a board, it may be recognizing it as a completely new mouse - different then the one you had in previously.

Just a guess, but worth a shot.

What version mame are you using?  If it's a recent version, did you enable -multimouse option?  You don't need to if you're not planning on using the TB & mouse to control different players, and don't mind that moving the mouse will effect games when using the TB.

If it's a little older, before -multimouse setting was added but after mame switched to RawInput, basically -multimouse is forced enabled.

If you want -multimouse enabled or it's forced on you, what's happening is the mouse is the first mouse, and the TB probably the second.  You'll need to remap with tab input menu.  Remap the TB analog axes by tab, select "Input (general)", player 1, scroll to Track X analog, enter, spin TB sideways, wait and hope mame sees mouse # X (and not mouse # X mouse # Y).  Repeat with track Y analog.  Do NOT do the inc or dec lines.
