How hard would this cabinet be to replace the control panel to a SF2 style setup

Hey,

I am looking to possibly pick up this cabinet, and am wondering how hard it would be to take out the control panel, and replace it w/ a two player SF2 style setup?

Depends on your skill level and access to tools.  It looks like it would be quite easy to do but I have the right tools for the job.  Also, I assume you going to MAME it?

No need to take it out. Just drill the extra holes and get the kick harness if keeping it JAMMA.

I honestly never thought about just drilling extra holes in the existing cabinet!

The cabinet is sturdy, the monitor is in terrific shape. It does have a JAMMA harness in it, so its just a matter of connecting it to my PC.

The main concern I had w/ the cabinet was space for the control panel. I looked at the cabinet last night, and measured. The SF2 setup would fill up most of the cabinet, but it can be done. Then its just a matter of putting the P1 P2 buttons, which I will just put on the front of the control panel.

Just going by what I can see in the picture, fitting the buttons on there shouldn't be a problem at all.

This is always why I ask the pros! I'm going to go ahead and pick up this cab then. The guy lives about 5 mins from me, so moving it isn't going to be to much of a hassle, just got to get it up some stairs.

No way! I got really lucky on the cabinet. I've been looking for the past month or so, but most of the cabinets I have seen are in really bad shape. This one is in great condition, but like I said, I was concerned about the control panel size.

The guy bought the cabinet about six years ago for his son. He played it for a bit, and it has collected dust since. I could not believe the quality of the monitor, it looks brand new.

I am looking to turn this into my Superman MAME cabinet. I have a PC from a few years ago to use, and just need to order the JPAC, and the new buttons that will be added. I also may look to add a new coin door, as the existing doors have been modifed.

So, upon doing some research, I have this question:

I know that the cabinet has a JAMMA board in it running a 2-player TMNT arcade. Since I'm wanting to add a SF2 control panel, will I need to buy a new Jamma Harness to accomodate the extra buttons? Then run the JAMMA to the JPAC?

check the jamma harness.  it should support 3 buttons.  might just be a wire not used inside the cabinet.  for the other 3 buttons, the j-pac has screw terminals that allow you to hook up buttons 4-8 for both players.

when i bought my first cabinet, it was jamma wired with three buttons.  i also have the six button layout and used the screw terminals from the jpac for my other buttons.

So, let me make sure I got this straight beforehand:

The TMNT jamma board thats in there has a harness set up w/ two players. Both players have two buttons, so I'm assuming that the JAMMA harness in it should be set up for three buttons each? So the Harness in it is only using two buttons per player. So, when I get my JPAC, i can configure the kick buttons on the JPAC for 4,5, and 6?

Sorry for asking all these questions, my book needs to be reshipped, and I am planning to pick this up Friday, so I want to know what to expect beforehand.

I don't normally correct spelling errors, but the first time I saw this word written in a book it's meaning immediately struck me.  Jipped is spelled gypped.  As in to gyp.  Yep . . . ethnic slur.  The thought had never even occurred to me.

Now that you've explained the word, I'll never forget the correct spelling. I thought it started with a G, but "gipped" definitely came across as wrong. I figured I'd just spell it how it sounded and maybe someone would correct it.
