Imperial 3" PS/2 trackballs on Ebay @ $59 Buy It Now
« on: June 13, 2003, 01:37:10 am »
I just bought one for myself for $59 from the guy, but these two don't have that option anymore. They're up for regular auction. They even come with a mounting plate. They're aren't in the arcade portion of the site, though, so maybe ya'll haven't seen it yet.

There are also some up for Buy It Now again. That's what I did. Pretty damn good price for an all-in-one.

Only problem that might arise would be if you wanted more than 1 trackball since it's PS/2. I only need one, though.

The link would be helpful!

Can't believe I forgot the link again! This isn't the firt time (and it won't be the last either).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=187&item=3528326575

The link is for just one of the trackballs. The seller has more of them.

Also, there are more trackballs for Buy it Now at $59.

Also, for those that don't use paypal. That seller WILL take money orders if you email him nicely and ask. I got mine from him with a money order.

AlanS17, thanks for the heads up!  ;D  I just picked up one. In fact he's got a few more for that price.  Also looks like I'll have to unload the 2 1/4 used one I just got last week.

Here's a link to the track balls.

BTW, it says it comes with a plate.  I assume this is the mounting plate.  What other hardware will I need to mount this?  What type of screws are used?  Thanks.

If you noticed, the plate has square holes in it. This is for special bolts called carriage bolts. They tighten from one end but don't have a groove in the bolt head. The four bolts on the inside hold the trackball and the four on the outside connect to the control panel. It's only for a wooden CP, though. If you're installing in a metal CP you can just cut a hole and mount it directly. Of course, to avoid the mess you can still use the plate with a metal CP.

I assume these are available at Home Depot or Lowes.

I would assume they are too, but I always buy them from local hardware stores anyways. For the little bits and pieces like that I always find the local stores more convenient. You can buy just 4 or 8 if you want to, and I don't know if you can just buy a few at larger stores. You may have to buy in bulk.

I would also like to take this moment to recommend lock nuts over standard nuts. With fierce joysticking/trackballing the standard nuts can actually start to unscrew themselves.

Don't worry about all this. You can take your trackball/joystick into the hardware store with you almost anywhere and tell them what parts you need and they can match up the sizes on the spot. A bolty is a bolt anywhere and the hardware stores no this, so they're big thing is customer service. (especially the little stores like Ace and True Value franchises)

Take advantage of this deal guys!

I got a $20 trackball on ebay, by the time I replaced the rollers (not necessary really), the ball (different color), got a plate, hardware, and hacked a few mice, I had close to $100 in it!  And I'd still prefer a PS/2 interface (my final mouse hack was serial).

I got mine on Monday!  He shipped it very fast.  I still have yet to test it out on the computer.  The only problem with it was that my wife was home when it arrived :(.  I got beat up a little bit.

Just bought one aswell!

Can't wait for it to arrive :D

My only question is; will this thing work straight out of the box or do I still need a opti-pac ???

(Might be a dumb question)
Thanks!

You'll be happy to know this sucker works straight out of the box with a PS2 port. Just unplug your regular mouse, plop that sucker on your desktop, and go to town on it. It also has wiring for pushbuttons that act as the buttons across the top of the mouse. Some people use them and some don't, but it's an option.
