Mameroom wall mount jukebox button suggestion/question
« on: September 21, 2008, 03:25:45 pm »
Hi guys,

I looking to do a wall mount jukebox.  I'm going to get the wall mount jukebox from Mameroom.  My question is what buttons to use for the premade cutouts for their jukebox.  I noted to big triangle buttons but there are 10 buttons on the left and 12 on the right.  Are they circle or square?  What can I use the buttons for?  I assume the left buttons are the numbers 0-9.  What a about the right?  Sorry for the noob question.

I would assume to answer your question you would first need to pick which jukebox software you intend to use in your cabinet to understand what types of buttons you need present (or think would be handy to have) on your jukebox panel to use the application properly.   Since there are many different types of jukebox software available with many types of options then I would not think anyone can truly tell you what buttons to use.

Also, if you intend to use a touchscreen monitor then some of the buttons "required" when interfacing with a mouse might no longer be required since you are using a touchscreen monitor instead.   It all depends on the software you choose, the type of interface you choose and what types of functions you personally want available on your control panel.

Once you choose which software you want to use then you will know the buttons you will need.

Good luck

mameRoom jukeboxes is property designed for Virtual Music Jukebox where the left side is property for volume controls, pause/play, rewind and other type of Short cuts.

The triangle buttons is for page flipping (Left, Right) and 12 buttons for the right goes for numbers from 0-9 (to insert a song), enter and delete.

But of course it depend software used, which might differ from type to type. If you build it your self using the cabinet kits, you are also not needed to drill all buttons, but only these buttons by your own need.

To the last, MultiFE and Sk-jukebox examples does support this cabinetkit with the above description as well Virtual Music Jukebox (which it was designed for), but MultiFE can also use other type of controls too.

mate, my first jukebox i built was through thier design and software all i can say is DONT DO IT!!!
i would rather do a touch screen jukebox with freebox personally

although if you like the design itsself then copy that, just dont do buttons etc

to answer your question directly, left buttons are skip, mute, cancel library 1-4 and....ummmm something else i cant remember

the ones on the right are 0-9 and ok clear

but again, it depend if you want button or touchscreen based jukebox and the music library you have.

there are both pross and downside of both systems.

So Checkout software and design the mameroom jukebox what need. the design dosent fail anything, since you can change it in the end.

Personally i think buttons are nice if you want a retro look and have a singles based jukebox. If you has a larger collection and it's album based then I would go down the touchscreen route. Searching is one of the functions that isn't as user friendly using a button based jukebox.

yes, search is one of the problem for button based, but I have tried to have a good search function for both albums and singles in my software, even for button use, where I recently have added a free text search feature that search for all libries in one go.

Otherwise the main problem here, is the MameRoom cabinet style isn't good for that search function, because you really can't use a SMS style input, where you need a phone style layout (which would been easier). Instead I think a alphabet based onscreen is the way for the onscreen search which is supported in my software (you really NOT need up and down for that screen here).

But if you building it your self, you can allways change the controls used, since you never need to use the same layout they used. Even if you go touchscreen way, the cabinet would even been fit very fine.
