Anyone know how to hook up an LCD screen from a laptop?

I wanna hack off an lcd screen from an old laptop and rig it up to run in my mini mam cab.  It'll be alot lighter than putitng in a 9" monitor.

But, i dont know how to do it.  anyone have any insight into this?

Wow.  I was hoping for maybe just soldering a couple wires and have a SVGA screen.  No such luck eh?

You might find some video cards that will connect directly to it... might be worth it then..

yeah, there are some but they are expensive.  or you can get a controller card, which are also expensive

I looked into this, as well.  I think everyone's got an old laptop laying around, sees the slim screen and thinks "why pay 300-500 for a new flat panel when I have this old POS sitting right here?"  Trouble is the controller.  Too many different brands/connectors for one super universal awesome solution.  

Although if somebody ever makes an inexpensive interface that Does It All for all types of LCD screens, he'd make a bajillion bucks.

There is no standard interface.   The other problem is that many laptop LCDs use custom digital interfaces, not analog, so additional circuitry would be nessecary.   Also, the pin-outs of the different screens are going to be different.

I think your best bet, is to buy a LCD monitor, if you want to go the LCD route.
