WTB: Empty Cab in MD/DC (Rockville) Area - **CAB PURCHASED**
« on: September 15, 2008, 04:49:23 pm »
If one pops up, hoping someone will see this even though I know it's a long shot.  I'm looking for an empty cab to restore into a MAME cabinet.  While I've seen a few pop up that could be usable, I don't want to MAME something that someone could really restore into the original game or use the art if the cab/boards are all still together and semi-functional.

Thanks in advance if anyone has something they are trying to get rid of or sees something somewhere I may not be checking.

WTB for the right price or simply take off your hands.

Did you see my Super Pac thread below.

I'm not too far from Rockville.

I did - I really thought someone would want the cab for a rebuild and feel bad about stripping it down or MAMEing it.

Only other issue was the screen being tilted down so low...I was going for a 'universal cab', and the tilt on this and similar cabs would make it hard to play with non-vert games and multiplayer....or am I wrong on that?

(After looking at some project threads, I really think I have a good idea for this cab, rebuild into a Super PacMAME with a leaning towards vertical games....the lack of a control panel really makes it seem perfect for this...)

In case anyone was peeking in here, I didn't manage to get the cab so still looking for something.  Although now I'm really keyed up to locate a cab I can make look good again and MAME at the same time - maintain the motif of the old cab, but have it usable for a decent number of MAME games.  I've decided a Frankenpanel is not the way I want to go and I want something that looks good like the cabinets I remember. :)

Any advice would also be welcome on how to locate a cab in this area for this in addition to people actually selling cabs.

This far I've written 3 distributors I've located in the area, one that 2600 directed me too.

Hey Necro....

Here is my situation... I have a Stern cabinet... its a vertical setup.  Its in need of a good home...but...I would like for it to become a Scramble.

.. so I bought all these things... and would like to have them convey with the cab.

1x Scramble metal control panel (beautiful new QuarterArcade repro)
1x Scramble bezel (really cool artwork and in really good shape!)
1x Scramble Marquee (decent shape)
2x Scramble board sets (working)
1x Scramble to JAMMA adapter
1x 8 Way Wico

Let me know if you are interested

The cab could really use a sand and paint... its pretty fugly... those old stern cabs had horrible texture and this one has been re-coated.

PS. I'm really close to Rockville.
Happy Gaming!

The's Rhuel.  Those are either too far (the one outside philly is far, even from family members houses) and the other is a bit too much $ for a cab I just don't even like the design of.

I'm keeping my eye out and talking to a few people trying to find something worthwhile.  Still interested in offers as I work through a few possibilities...

And I'd like to say thanks to people giving me some support and advice, it's really very helpful.  Part of why I like this place is the community, and knowing that once I do get a cab I have somewhere to come for help, ideas, and support. :)

I had a hard time finding an affordable cab nearby as well.  I finally found mine by posting a WTB in one of these groups:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.video.arcade.collecting/topics?hl=en

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.video.arcade.marketplace/topics?hl=en

Also, try Craigslist. See if you can find anyone who is regularly selling cabs. Often, they have a few broken ones or empty ones laying around. I found a bunch but they wanted to charge way more than I was willing to spend.

Most importantly, be patient. The perfect cab will turn up soon enough!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the support MBH :)  I'm trying to keep my eyes on a few places and see if anything pops up and talking with someone from here that got into contact with me.

Just curious, but what did you end up getting and for how much?

Have you tried the Namco site? You can do a search for used games for sale in your area.

That's an interesting site...hadn't tried that yet, just did.  Seems to be a bit out of my price range since it's working games.

And I'm trying to - hopefully - get in touch with a guy having a garage sale type thing this weekend.  Figures I have a wedding to go to :).  maybe I can 'reserve' something from him.

Who would have thought this would be that difficult :) ?

Check every now and then. I found about three cabinets near me that way...two NFLBlitzes for $49 each and a Tekken Tag Tournament for $99. Thinking about grabbing up one of the three.

Good to know.  I actually did a wide area search and found one I'd actually like...unfortunately it's 3 hours away :/.

:)  With the way this week has been going (unrelated to gaming), hitting the cab motherload would be a nice change hehe.  I did however just get an arkanoid CP for $35, so...that's kind of cool.  Going to make it into a standalone controller...love that game and my spinner just doesn't do it justice.

I ended up getting the Space Duel cab that's in my sig. I got it for $60. It came with the smoked glass, bezel, coin mechs, speakers, broken marquee light, some bugs and the control panel.

Ok, so....I guess I'm going to need to keep on keeping on until something comes up in the price range I'm interested in.  :/

What's your price range? What size were you looking for a 19 or 25" cab? My shop is near the Harrisburg PA area, is that too far to drive?

Leaning towards a 25" now since I'd like to have a 2 player setup.

That being said, 2 weeks ago I thought I was doing a 4 player setup so...I'm open to change.

And from where I live, Harrisburg is just on the border of the 'Yeah, that's a far drive but worth it' area - definitely in the 'know before you go' area :).

Drop me a PM with what you have and what your looking for pricewise and I can let you know! :)

Karetaker, responded to your PM just asking a question and answering yours.

Also, kind of pissed off right now.  Told someone I'd purchase a game for them, very interested, asked if they'd go down 25$ because it needed sideart (rarer cabinet and no available art), and got told no.  Said Ok fine to the price then, and asked about the monitor and when I could pick it up...ended up getting a response back that it was sold to someone else because they said they'd buy it at the asked price...no question back, no nothing - even after I specifically made sure I was the first one to respond to not get my hopes up or get excited.

Am I wrong in thinking how things normally work (i.e. try to work with the first responder first, then if that fails move forward, etc.).?

...and now he writes me back to say the other guy didn't pick it up do I want it.  Heh.

Anyway, when it rains it pours...now have a bunch of options ranging from a potentially very cheap old contra cab (bad condition, ebay) to a OmegaRace cab (good condition, really like it's look) to a few 'unknowns'.

I really...REALLY wish I had more space in my house to make this decision easier.

Say no to omega race.  Not a good donor cab.

I'm telling you wait for the auctions in a month or two.  Pick up a cheap vertical and a cheap horizontal cab and go to town.  Timonium isn't that far from you and you can rent a UHual for $20 plus gas.

What makes you say that about the Omega?  :)  Also, two cabs aren't possible at this time, so I need to make a decision on one.

Had a bunch of good ideas for the Omega, and it just looks really...REALLY...damn cool.

And was thinking of going to that auction...that was actually my 'wait until then' plan, but when someone contacted me with this one I kind of got hooked on it.
