Finished Texas Longhorns and Yankees Themed Xbox360 Stick
« on: August 13, 2008, 12:31:27 pm »
This build included a lot of firsts for me, so while its not all that ambitious, it was very fun and I learned a whole lot.  And to top it all off, it seems like the end product came out pretty good.

Instead of posting everything here, Ill link to a build webpage I quickly made:

http://omgbbq.com/tfight360.htm

Thanks to a lot of people here on this forum for answering my questions and giving me selfless help!

The buttons are from Lizardlick.  The ones on the side for Back, Guide and Start are Yenox buttons, which to me feel like stiff Happ buttons, that have a smaller plunge to actuate.  They arent quite as long though, which helped me to fit them in the box.  I dont know if Id use them over happs (I have happs in my stand up arcade), but they were cheaper and I wanted to check them out.  Overall very nice buttons, dont make the spring sound that my happs do when you hit it hard and hold them down.

The buttons on top are Seimitsus with the clear plunger, for future LED addition.

All can be found here - http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/pushbuttons.shtml

Both are about midway down the page.

As much as I hate the horns that is a very nice stick.  Hopefully we'll see you in Kansas City in December, go HUSKERS.

Heh you have a lot more than us to worry about this year.  Must be exciting getting Beau Bridges out of there in favor of Bo Pelini.

Nebraska's got class act team and fans, hope to see you all rise back up in short order in the North.

I was there at the 1999 game in Lincoln (wasnt in school to make the 1998 Big 12 Championship game), but was blown away by the Nebraska fans.  If that were aTm or OU in that situation, hell even CU or TTech, Id have been worried to get out of there without some damage done.

Thanks for the compliment of the stick.

Franco - As I said, Im a total noob at soldering, this is literally the second thing in 4 years that I have successfully soldered.  I therefore feel rather safe in stating that the is pretty easy to work with.

Final mods are done on my Texas stick.  Got the hollow shaft mod from Luigi (Danke!).  Followed Kaytrims guide here along with the commentary on SRK to do the button light up mod.  I ended up using 5mm buttons, which worked just fine with a 3/16" bit.  Eventually I need to pop out the plungers and darken the inside, where the LED is pointed shines through the white (you can see at the beginning of the video), but thats not a huge deal, as its where your fingers are normally.

Anyway, big thanks to the community here, and I can finally call this stick done!

Great buttons... Damn I'm tired of finding something nicer every time I view a new vendor. I reckon there's something I "really really need" with every single vendor... the postage is killing me!

Quick question: How did you get the cable out of the box? Did you drill a hole? A slot? In the wall, or the base?

I drilled a hole in the base panel.  I drilled it as close to the edge as I could without the bit sliding off, the finished it with a file to make a clean notch out of the edge.

The rubber feet I have on the bottom have it sit high enough off the table that if playing on a surface the cord can come out without the box sitting on it.

When playing on your lap, its a non-issue as well.

No kidding, I think I have ordered something at one time or another from every major vendor present here.
