PS3 sixaxis hack complete!
« on: September 07, 2008, 11:18:58 am »
What a PITA!  Took me ~6 hours to complete.

A lot of that time was trying different methods.  I tried variations of the spiffyshoes solderless PS2 hack, but that turned out to not work very well.  In the end, I used Ben Heck's method of removing the connector pins, and the connector itself, and soldering to the little pads left.  I ended up having to use a very small guage stranded wire and zen-like concentration.

After all that, it works perfectly.  Not sure if I'm going to offer these in my hacking service thread.  I should be able to do them faster than 6 hours next time, but it'll still be pretty time-consuming.  If I do offer them, I'd probably have to adjust my pricing to reflect the amount of time involved.

What the heck is that?!  That is not what I sent you!   ;)

Thanks, Haruman!  Of course, I expected nothing less than complete success from the Yoda of controller hacking.  ;D

Way to go, you'll have to forgive my cynical attitude from before.

No problem...   :)

At one point I did think that I had 'borked' it...  but I was able to fix it and get it working.

I hope you work for a company like Honeywell or somethin'...  Gotta take advantage of that skillset.   ;)

Haruman has too much class to gloat so I'll be happy to do it for him:

Where do you get the long white terminals like that from?

Frys selection is lacking, and Im not sure where else to check...

That really is 2 twelve position terminals.  I took one, cut it to size, and glued it to another one.  You can buy them at Radio Shack, just look for 12 position euro terminal strip, or something like that.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.
