Star Wars/ESB MAME settings
« on: September 06, 2008, 04:45:15 pm »
Can someone share with me some good video settings to get these two vector games looking as good as possible on a PC monitor?  Just got a SW yoke and looking to tweak the games to make them look their best.  Thanks!

According to strategywiki, there is a vector setting window in MAME32. Similar functions should be available in via mame.ini...

First main thing to do is use a very high resolution. The higher the better.

I saw Geometry Wars 2 for Xbox on a high def tv last weekend and it looks just like a vector game!
NO MORE!!

Yes, highest resolution... And if you have an lcd... then you want native resolution.

I wish the guy who was/is working on the AAE vector emulator (http://pages.suddenlink.net/aae) would add SW and ESB.  I'm impressed with what he's done so far.

If I am missing something I hope someone will point it out, but since the vector video options changed* (with the v0.107 video makeover I believe) the vector output looks poor.

(* translucency and intensity removed)

This is particularly so in low-res modes which before could be tweaked to look very good on a low-res screen. The difference (compared to older versions of Mame) is not quite as obvious in high resolutions, but still not as good.
