Help with Monitor Mounting Kit - Ultimate Arcade II
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:54:05 pm »
I have an Ultimate Arcade II and I just got the Monitor Mounting Kit and a WG D9400 (27" arcade monitor)....go the directions for the mounting kit but the problem is my UAII doesn't have those pre-drilled holes for it ... so I'm lost....I have no idea where to put this stuff.   ???

I HOPE someone else out there has the same set up that I do and can maybe get me some measurements for the upper and lower sections of this mounting kit (there are really only 3 pieces).

So..there's my latest dilemma..my fingers are crossed that someone can help me.  Until then I have a mounting kit sitting in pieces in the corner and my monitor looking less than dazzling.

Also - when I unplug that monitor is it safe to move?   All that open electronic stuff sticking out makes me nervous to touch it and get electrocuted.

Thanks again everyone!

I'm building a UAII from scratch...

I have had the monitor in and out a few times to figure out where to place mounting points.  I would suggest having someone help you place the monitor in the cabinet.  Once it's in, mark up the screw holes for the mounting kit.

I'm guessing that you were looking for an easy way out... i.e. for someone to say... mount it here.... but you'll probably be happier with the results if you do a test fit (plus, you'll know for sure that it's in the right place).

Yes, you don't want to be sticking your fingers in the electronics of the monitor.  Touch the wrong place and you will be very sorry.  It's safe as long as you handle the monitor by the mounting frame and you don't touch any of the electronics.  Believe me... I feel the same way about handling monitors.  The open frame makes me nervous too.  Be sure to have someone help you.
... Why is it that you always find it in the last place that you look? ...

@paulscade,

dude you look like you know what you're doing!!!!  Also kudos for not adding an extra joystick at the top of the panel.

yeah, i have a D9400 also and while it's not too heavy to lift, you definitely need a 2nd person to help.  in my case, i had 3 ppl including myself.  two to lift and the 3rd positioned and screwed things in.

so basically i should attach the mounts to the monitor while its in there - once its in then mark it up, take it out and drill the holes where they need to go?

KeWLMoNk, I don't know what this mounting bracket of yours looks like so it's difficult for me to comment on exactly how to do it.

For me, I slid the monitor into the cabinet and marked off where the top and bottom of the monitor would rest (the mounting rails on the monitor itself).  I wedged some scrap wood under the rear of the monitor until I had the angle that I was looking for before making marks.  I also marked up where I placed the scrap wood so I could later (once monitor was removed) screw & glue wood under it to help support it (at the needed angle).

The monitor that I chose is heavy... about 100 pounds.  I didn't want to depend on it hanging off of a single 2x4 at the top... so I provided appropriate support under it.  I'm sure that the 2x4 could hold it... I was worried about where the 2x4 attaches to the MDF.  So it's glued on the inside and screwed with some decent sized wood screws from the outside.

You can sort of see it in this shot:

No matter how you get it in and mark it up, place some wood under the monitor to help hold the weight and don't depend solely on your mounting kit.
