using a 8 way joystick as 4 way (mame)
« on: September 01, 2008, 03:14:48 pm »
ive got a old common cabinet and has suzo (i think) 8 way joysticks (original) with no restrictor plate.

is ther a way to allow these to be 4 way?

with a restrictor plate anyway i would need to go in back of cab to unlatch the cp to turn plate then relatch ect.

was thinking of making p2 joy a 4way and connect to the 1 player controls?

if nothing can be done like software based, is there any that can be adjusted from the top of the cp without taking apart?

Without more data, there is no way to answer your questions.  How about a picture?

Has it become a problem?  I find most games in mame play just dandy with an 8-way stick.

Best,

I posted a similar question or two a few days ago, which ended up with me ordering 2 Ultra-Stik 360's, but there were some other suggestions in the thread(s).

These can be adjusted between 8/4 way from the top of the control panel:

the same with me, i was using the mortal kombat original 8 way sticks, and when playing pacman or donkey kong, it was to easy to get stuck.  I just bought the magstick plus, you can switch from 4 to 8 way from the top of the panel, and they have a nice short throw.  Some dont like the magnetic cetering, but so far i really like them.  and not having to open the panel to switch is sweet.
