SkeeBall Help
« on: August 19, 2009, 01:02:04 pm »
;D I just got my SkeeBall Machine home, I've been looking for one for months....

I need some help Identifying this Beast... Because I need a part for the scoreboard.

Upon Inspection, I can't find any tags whatsoever on or in the machine....
The Marquee shows Fab U Ball on it... but searching comes up empty...

As you see in the pics, I am missing the red plastic part that covers the light bulbs under the marquee on the scoreboard.

Any idea on what I could use to replace this???

Here's the link to the pics...

Thanks.....

Get a piece of plexiglass, paint the insides with a design, and place it over the blank spot?  Or even get something printed on marquee material, sandwich it in some plexi, and put it up there.

Thanks, but as you see in the pics, I have the marquee already, it is just the underlay that goes over the lights. Is it just a red celefain? As in the pic, the bulbs are clear, but when lit, they should outline a number....

Ahh gotcha.... I see.  You could try some cellophane, sure.  Whatever looks good.

??? Anyone seen this before, I would like to get a schematic. I can get the balls to come down, sensors will blink and count 9 balls before it starts catching them again. But the game won't reset and start. I believe I should get the ALLEY OPEN light to come on when it is ready. Right now it is just stuck in the demo mode, flashing lights, playing music. There is a reset button which just starts it over, and a service button which goes through some light sequences to show all the lights working.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated....thanks.... :banghead:

What does the CPU unit inside the head box look like ?
(behind the light board for the digits)
There's usually a plastic piece that fits over those light bulbs to give it the LED digit look, with each bulb lighting an individual segment.

Overall the layout looks VERY similar to a standard Skeeball brand machine.
Maybe a slightly older Model H or something..... not sure though.

Oh, and I would start with pulling the main boards out and thoroughly re-seating every chip on it and look for bad solder joints and such around the power supply sections and any header pin connectors. Clean and re-seat and wiring connectors, etc. Just general stuff.

Just common problems you find with any regular Skeeball brand machine, so I would apply the same concept to this one to start with.

Thanks for the Help..... Yes it is the red plastic LED cover I need, I drove over 3 hours for this machine, and I lost it in transit......
I updated the pictures that show the inside behind the lights, it is definitely not like an arcade board that I am used to working with....
I emailed Skeeball.com too, to see if they can help in the identification also... but anyone with an extra 3 digit LED cover please let me know.

Or if this looks similar to a model H, give me a heads up....

Sorry, this is my first Skeeball machine, and just getting into it. Arcade units and my mame cabinet were much easier to work on for me.....

Take a quick measure of the digit display area (the blank box area) and the spacing between bulbs and maybe we can see if it matches a standard Skeeball display piece.

I have an old Toss Em' machine and it also has a very similar display setup as the Skeeball version. (speaking about the red plastic display piece) I haven't pulled it off to take any measurements yet, but I'm guessing the part you lost shouldn't be terrible to get a hold of. I may even know where a Skeeball version is laying around. (have to double check this weekend)

Is it just a piece of red acrylic or is it masked of for each number area?

Maybe you could get something like this and make your own.

Here's a pic from UncleT of his machine I snagged that shows the digit piece pretty well.
(and my poor example of the bulb layout)
It's more or less just a plastic "box" that fits over each individual light bulb with cutouts to mimic the segments of an LED display and then that whole piece has a piece of red acrylic of sorts to cover those segments so that they show as red "segments".

I believe UnclkeT's machine is a Model H Skeeball..... the Model S Skeeballs aren't much different.

You can use a piece of red acrylic or red litho tape. litho tape is what skee ball uses on a lot of their displays. Finding it wide enough can be tough though.

Thanks to everyone.....

Kevin, here is a pic with the measurements.....

And a pic of the boards.... to help see what I have and to figure out what the dip switch setting are.

I will also pull the re-seat everything and check stuff over to see what the reset problem is.

Kevin, here is a pic with the measurements.....

Cool... I'll try to measure a regular Skeeball version up as soon as I can get ahold of one.

Thanks alot.... this is much appreciated.

On the CPU it says FAB 002 and there is a sticker on one of the chips "FAB U3 1pt 11/15/04. A sticker on the back reads: "F.A.B. Electronics Co., Inc. Pleasantville, NY 10570 (914) 769-5104
