How many people actually use ROM sites? Personally, I hate wading through all the pop-ups and downloading roms one at a time. I'd much rather use one of those CD burners.

Besides, share the wealth, right? I thought that's what this site was about.

BTW, StarGoddess222, you need to pick a new icon. You're playing with my emotions.  :)

Personally I think there shouldn't be *ANY* dissemination of information regarding roms or rom locations done through this board directly or indirectly.  (for the sake of making sure this site doesn't get pinched in the process -> no matter how unjustly it might seem... ) i.e. better safe than sorry.

This site IMHO is about building arcade controls and interfacing them with systems (pc, console, etc) I wouldn't want to see the gimme gimme crowd get too large here... which is what I think SG was alluding to in her own way.

agreed rampy, simply because of this: if you are building arcade controls i'd say its a pretty safe bet you have or know where to grab roms anyways!  ;D ;D

true, seems to me (i made a mistake asking for one on here) but yes i think that we should make a new forum rule here, no rom download links/asking where to get them/asking people to send them/ ect... we should get that to be some forum rule to be safe, if people want roms they should be able to find them if they search long enough and I found most of mine except for a few by myself...so i'm sure anyone can if they put effort into it, banning rom talk on here would keep "rom hunters" off the boards anyway...

I agree, "don't point from this board."

AlanS17, I agree in sharing the info, but don't want to get the messenger/forum killed in the process.  Giving the info is fine, as long as this board is not linked to the source of the info.

My advise:

don't put link in reply in the thread,
don't PM on this board,
don't post "I'm emailing you the answer".
okay to email the the link, or
okay to link to google/yahoo.

That's been a rule of these boards for as long as I can remember.  "No Rom Requests" is pretty straightforward, IMO.

Rules?  We don't need no steeenkin rules!  Well, maybe one.  Be nice to each other.  We're serious about this one.  Disagree, debate, argue at will - but please be respectful.  Messages that are antagonistic or contain profanity will likely be deleted, and repeat offenders banned from posting.  Oh, also - I do not mind the occasional emulation related or other off-topic post.  This is an online community as well as a discussion forum after all.  However, please do bear in mind the intent of the board is to discuss arcade controls and related topics.

NO ROM REQUESTS

Thanks!

what i meant was....people are posting stuff about rom SITES.  newbs, IMO, should not use the same rom sites as veteran users.  you know what i'm talking about.

There is only one problem....how exactly do you determine who is a veteran or not? By posts on this board? I've been playin around with mame for a long time before I came to this board.  Personally, I think it's just better not to discuss locations of roms/rom sites on this board.

well for starters, I would think that a veteran already knows where to find roms...

I've only played around with mame for a few short months...I didn't have too much trouble finding sites for myself...I wouldn't consider myself a veteran. you just need to put forth a little effort.

Hehe,  yeah, it's not too hard to find roms elsewhere.  We don't need any of that here.  Ever read mame's faqs or links page????  Sometimes the answers are right in front of your face but you don't see it.

Right??  If you can't find roms, your internet must be broken or something.

Yeah, that or you aren't too used to this "internet" thing, and next time someone says "MAME" you wonder what it is...

(I don't know how much sense that made... I worked hard on civ stuff, at this point I am talking out of my --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules--)

I found Roms on the editor of my school newspaper's webserver! Plus you can check out:
