New project advice wanted/old cab for sale!
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:36:18 pm »
Hi all. It's been years since I built my own cabinet so now I'm in a position to build one to my own spec I'm working on a new cab for myself for once! I've settled on a design I planned a couple of years ago which has sinced been done as a commercial thing by a couple of US cab builders. The idea may not be totally original but it's quite a showy thing that I can use outdoors at parties too. Here is the basic design:

It will basically just be a pedestal with a removable control panel box on the top. Inside I plan to install a good projector so the unit can be wheeled in front of any wall to be played. This will be great for fighters, racing games etc. and I can also put my Wii in there for outdoor gaming. I plan to make the control panel easily removable and to build a proper racing panel so I can also install a PS2/X-Box in there and have things like Gran Turismo and Project Gotham in big-screen too.

The main MAME panel will have 4 players with 4/8-way switchable sticks, a lighted U-trak and a spinner. The thing I'm concerned with is a) should I get a TurboTwist spinner with wheel attachment for MAME racing games, and b) do you think I will have any display issues with the projector mounted where it is? (Top-right grey rectangle in the first picture). Any input would be helpful.

On a similar note, my old arcade machine is up for sale, so might make a nice budget buy for a novice or you could strip it for parts...
