Old School Games CP concept--opinions wanted
« on: August 28, 2008, 09:41:28 am »
I'm looking for opinions/critiques of my Old School CP idea: I was thinking about accurate Asteroids and Track & Field. It turns out there are no extra buttons needed for Stargate. I don't own any of the parts for this CP yet, and I'm thinking Wico 4-way stick. Leaf buttons. Atari Cones for start buttons.

Here's how I came up with this design: Start with the Stargate CP. The joystick and reverse button are in the same relationship to each other, but they have been moved towards the middle of the CP. My main concern with the joystick placement is the buttons being in the way for righty joystick games such as Pac Man. Moving the reverse button closer to the other buttons facilitates the proper distance between the run buttons for Track and Field.  The top 5 buttons work for Asteroids.

Art idea attached too.

The Defender CP threadgot me thinking about this.

The reverse button isn't close enough to the stick.

Thats one of the issues with defender, the reverse button needs to be as close as possible to the stick to make the defender experience as good as possible. I'm rebuilding a defender CP just for this reason.

You could use a top-button stick.  That would really put the button as close as possible to the stick.  But if you're looking for authenticity over playability . . .
