Looking to get a Control Panel made.
« on: August 25, 2008, 01:21:02 pm »
Im building a MAME machine but there isnt a snowballs chance I'll be able to make a Control panel even resembling of something useful.

So im hoping to find someone who can make one for me. Im looking for something very similar to the IMG below (thanks Atomsmasher for the img from cp thread in main).
The CPO, Buttons, etc I can handle, its just the actual CP, holes for joys/buttons, and the box to go under it, with the slot for Tmolding. Wiring and making pretty I can manage.
If anyone might be interested please let me know what other information you would need to give me a quote.

Are you just needing the 6 pieces of wood cut (ie: Top, Bottom, Sides), holes drilled in the top, and the t-molding slot cut or do you want it assembled, painted/laminated and artwork attached?

You know, most of us that have no real skills still managed to make decent CPs. Just takes asking a few questions.

Oh believe me, I tried out of curiosity and it ended horribly and slightly painfully  ;D

Are you just needing the 6 pieces of wood cut (ie: Top, Bottom, Sides), holes drilled in the top, and the t-molding slot cut or do you want it assembled, painted/laminated and artwork attached?

painting, lamination and artwork I should be able to do (if not im sure I can research a bit and learn). Pretty much just wanting things cut and ready to assemble. Actually I was thinking assembled but I suppose I should be able to handle assembling it if you could provide minor instructions... since that would cut down on shipping by quite a bit.

My biggest issue about doing it myself even if I could cut wood, is that theres a lot of things to factor (or so I think). Like slanting it downward a bit, proper spacing of buttons etc, Making the top removable, things like that... so I would prefer someone like you guys with experience with all of those things. I have a general idea of how wide id like it etc (but like I said, I have no experience so they may not even work) , I have it all written down at home, Ill get them when i get off and post them.

Once I get the CP done Ill be eager and ready to go full speed. Right now I keep running into "well if the CP was done I could test this more fully and properly" and i get discouraged and take "breaks" for long periods of time.

Have you checked out Mameroom.com? They have a control panel designer program. You create what you want, and they'll cut it out, build it, and ship it to you.

Yeah, they're my backup plan. I was just hoping I might be able to find it a bit cheaper, plus I was reading a few things saying people had to wait weeks or even months to get a finished kit from them, so I was a little hesitant. If this post doesnt work out though I think Ill go ahead and just try them. Allthough I think theirs are predefined sizes.. which may be a perfect size still, ill have to look into it a bit more.

Yeah I managed to make my control panel and it was a hell of a lot easier than wiring it, which you'll probably have to do anyways. I reccomend looking at mameroom.com as well, I ended up using their plans anyway.

Im going to go ahead and go with mameroom as soon as I get the customization correct. I think overall thats my best bet. It wont be much more expensive and itll be done by people who has plenty of experience.

Thanks for the help all.

I'm debating having Mameroom do my CP as well...can't seem to find a link to the software or any mention of custom creation of CP's on their site...

ANy ideas where I should be looking or has this been stopped?

EDIT: NEvermind...found the link after digging down into a few specific item pages.
