ArcadeVGA + Arcade Monitor + Winuae... anyone tried? (solved)
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:29:48 pm »
I'm trying to setup Winuae to play some amiga games on the cab, and was wondering if anyone had success doing it?  Amiga resolution is 320x256 @ 50hz, but the AGVA only has that res @ 60hz.  I can setup to use a higher resolution but then the monitor will display in interlaced mode (my hantarex polo/3 isn't a multi-sync), which I don't really want.

I can see the AVGA also has a 384x288 mode @51hz, so maybe I can configure Winuae to center the display using that res.

Just curious of others' experiences.

Cheers  :cheers:

p.s. wasn't sure to post this in main, monitors, or software, so posted it here

You should be able to use the 60Hz mode and look for a 'triple buffering' option somewhere in WinUAE's video options which will hide the 'tearing' that you may see on games that scroll (that really should be the only issue if you go from 50Hz to 60Hz).

Cheers, there's an 'enable vsync' option so I'll give that a go.

Once I've got the settings optimised I'll post them here.  :cheers:

OK I got it working pretty well.  I tried the 320x256 @60hz mode, with vsync on, but (as I kinda expected) the games were running too fast (most noticably the music was waaay too fast).  In the end, switching to the ArcadeVGA's 352x288 @51Hz mode gave me a much more "closer to 50Hz" experience. OK so I have tiny borders around the display area, but you don't even notice them really.

So in short, I set the following options (WinUAE 1.5.0, using ArcadeVGA2 [PCI-E] with a Hantarex Polo/3 arcade monitor): -

gfx_width=352
gfx_height=288
gfx_width_fullscreen=352
gfx_height_fullscreen=288
gfx_refreshrate=0
gfx_autoresolution=0
gfx_vsync=true
gfx_lowres=true
gfx_lowres_mode=normal
gfx_linemode=none
gfx_fullscreen_amiga=true
gfx_center_horizontal=smart
gfx_center_vertical=smart

All works a charm. Cannon Fodder never ran so great! :)  Doesn't seem to stretch the display either, which is nice.

Cheers  :cheers:
