Open Source..? Please
« on: August 15, 2008, 02:12:55 pm »
Just my opinion.  I wish no offense at all.

I think that making this open source would be a much better idea.  MaLa is by far the best FE around, and there is so much that can be done with it.   I know you've been entrusted with the source code, but as you're a self confessed "inexperienced coder with limited time to spend on this project" it  doesnt particually fill people with confidence that the FE is going to be going places which it deserves to, with one seemingly undocumented release in 3 months.

I see you've released a alpha version... any chance of having some sort of readme/whatsnew file so we can tell what the differences are supposed to be?

Yeah, that would be nice, but Loadman has already said he can't do that out of respect for the wishes of the original developer, swindus.

Look on the announce thread about overtake of the source code.

There are painfull setup with many third party componet that still need to been work in his Delphi 2007.

The original sourcecode did only work on a German Delphi 5 and used many speciel third party componets whith is not compabitble with the english Delhpi 2007.

So of course that take some time to get that source code ported over to his compiler.

So it not that easy to port over when he dosent understand german, but I heard he is going releasing soon. But worst bugs is got fixed.

Due with that setup, you wont to see that being open source. I also Swindus wont let him release the source.

Decade Old Work: MultiFE, ArcadeMusicBox
Today Works: Various Spectrum Next games from Rusty Pixels and html5 games.

I have answered this here..: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=79974.0

Even if it was Open Source managing it would be a nightmare as there are 3rd part components (some not avaliable anymore), so only working using Delphi 5 German right now.

Yes I could spend hours on documentation but that would take away from what little time I have to enhancements and bug fixes.

Are you putting your hand up to help with release stuff?   ;)

There is this web page here: http://malafe.net/index.php?page=versionhistory

I'm not going to stop supporting MaLa any time soon.  It's a cool Fe.   :applaud:

But if that is not good enough for you then there are a number of other FREE fe's to choose from.  ;D

I do have an extensive 'to do' list, but I am too scared to post it right now as that could leed to more presure for a timeline.  :P

Have fun!
