3M 15" Touchscreen LCDs ... *Dead*
« on: August 15, 2008, 01:20:36 pm »
Found a local guy trying to get rid of fourteen 3M 15" touchscreen LCDs, all like-new, and guaranteed none have dead pixels.

I am wondering if I could get together 14 people that would like to purchase the touchscreens for $80+ship each? (I don't need one, but there are 3 non-touch included that I'd keep.) They are without plastic enclosures (just the metal casing), and the touch connections are Serial, not USB, which I know may make a difference to some people.

They are 3M model number 11-4922-129-00: http://www.touchboards.com/a3m/11-4922-129-00.asp. They have a resolution of 1024x768.

Edit: Drivers for the touch can be found here: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MTouchSystems/TS/TechnicalInformation/TouchDrivers/
Expand the "Touch Monitor Drivers" section, and you will see the model number in the "Chassis FPD Monitors" section of the table.

I'd collect the money ahead of time, pay the guy for the LCDs, and then ship them out to everyone individually. Based on the last thread like this (for the ELO screens), domestic shipping would be about $13 via USPS.

I told the guy I would let him know within a week whether or not I'll buy them, so we have about 7 days to gauge interest and get money collected.

Well, just got an email from the guy...looks like someone else bought them first. Sorry  :-[

You would pay me for the LCD + shipping via PayPal, and I would pay him in cash when I get them from him. I'd then ship them out to everyone individually via USPS, and send out tracking/confirmation codes.

FWIW, the link you provided stated 1024x768 as max res.

These are capacitive touch as well.  They are not SAW.  A good monitor at a good price, but jsut keep in mind they won't have the same "look" (due to the glass) when they are done and installed.  If I had the cash on hand, I'd buy one.

If anyone wants to go halves on getting a couple (or more) shipped over to the UK then I would be game.

EDIT: I got two 3M MicroTouch 17" ChassisTouch LCD Touch Monitors this week and I was weary about the serial connection. I downloaded the serial drivers from the 3M site and they worked like a charm. I would see if you can find the serial driver for people before you carry on with the group buy.

Good point. Added a link to the drivers from 3M's site in my original post above. Looks like they shouldn't be a problem -- everything from Win 98 - XP seems to be available.

You would be correct, sorry about that. Fixed!

25 ms response time.  Not good for gaming.  Great for jukebox though.

I was looking to make a Jukebox, but I haven't any experience with making one.  I assume that these would be used for one.  I haven't found much in the way of jukebox plans yet, but I assume this would be the kind of thing that I would want for one, yes?

If you would like the kind of jukebox where you touch the screen rather than press physical button then yes, this is what you want.

This is exactly why I am interested. I bought two 3M 17" ChassisTouch's this week and they have a responce of 13mS. Not the greatest I know but they do look awesome with what I have thrown at them so far. I'm thinking if I use one for a plain juke then it will be a waste of the specs, hence why I am interested in these 15"s

Count me in then for one.  I'll start looking around for some plans.  I wish I could make something like what mountain made. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=79817.0
I doubt I could make that even with plans and someone helping me  :P

They will have a plastic overlay on the screen instead of glass.  Not a deal breaker, but a slightly different look.  More like a laptop look w/ a glossy screen.

Are you planning on getting them shipped to you and then shipping them on afterwards? Ifso could you test that they work before securely sending them onto me? I may be interested in a few depending on the shipping rates.

He's nearby so I'll actually be able to pick them up directly and I can inspect each one before I accept the deal. Then I can test them each, and ship them out. According to USPS, via Priority Mail International, shipping would be about $45 + insurance (though it may be +/- a bit, this is a rough estimate from them).

That's pretty close to what I was quoted when I was shipped a couple of the others to Italy.

Well, it seems USPS's shipping calculator broke (of course...), but the shipping should be about $13 (plus insurance, if requested) to anywhere in the US.

Edit: The calculator finally works, and the shipping cost is $13, like I figured.

Where can you get one (especially an open frame) cheaper?  Not being an ass, but if you can tell me I'd like to buy a couple.
