Whole lotta questions
« on: August 15, 2008, 12:05:15 am »
Getting started with my project and need some help setting up Mala.  Here are my questions,

1. Everytime I start a new game (ROM) a warning, something like... Usage of emulators...if you don't own ROM is forbidden by law...
Is there anyway to prevent this message from popping up?

2. Can someone explain how game lists work?

3. It would be nice to have a tree structure to organize my games, but I have so many of them it would take a very long time to assign each one is there any other way?

4. Where can I get more layouts from?

5.  Is there some way to have high scores saved?  I read how a while ago but can't remember where I saw it.

6. Is there a way to hide the windows XP logo upon startup?

7. This question probably relates to setting up a tree structure.  But is there an automatic way have most frquent games saved to a category?  Say the last 10 played games show up in a certain branch?

8. How do I setup (or at least see the defaults) for which keys on the keyboard control what function?  For example when I play Donkey Kong obviously up, down, left, right were obvious which keys were which, but I had to hunt and peck to figure out that the Ctrl button was the jump button.

 ???Thanks in advanced ???

1. You will need to compile your own version of MAME to eliminate those.  Search the software forum for MAME compiler.  You're basically bypassing MAME developer's wishes by doing such a thing, which is why you have to compile it yourself to override that.

2. not sure what type of information you're trying to obtain here.   a game list is either a full list of all the ROMs that MAME supports (overkill) or a simplified list of your favorites or a list of titles that work on your particular machine's configuration.  (ie, no trackball?  why have centipede in your list?)

3. I don't have experience with trees.

4. all the available layouts are on the mala website

5. hi score saving is part of #1.  Building your own version of MAME you can add that in, but not all games support it.

6. search the wiki for "hiding windows"

7. see #3

8. When in MAME, hit the TAB key and you get a menu that has the inputs for "general" and "this game"  You can edit/view the inputs there and change them if needed.

Above all, read the mame help/readme files. Also, try out mame32 to have an idea of the features possible.
