60 in 1 spinner support ?
« on: August 13, 2008, 08:48:02 pm »
Hey guys,

I'm about to convert a showcase cabinet to a 60 in 1 with a trackball.  With Arkanoid being one of my favourites, i have a couple questions.

1. Does the 60 in 1 even have spinner support ? or does this get taken / used by the trackball when installed ?
2. If the spinner works, which product would work best ?

I have heard that the newer 60 in 1's have 2 headers on them for trackball support.  Since my boards have not arrived yet, im wondering if one of these headers can do 'double duty' as a spinner ?

Anyone that can shed some light on this, please do.

Hmmm...   sarcasm ?  :o

60 in 1 is a 'newish' jamma pcb board that runs emulation software for classic vertical games.

I wonder if i could try to hack the track ball header to use the x axis only for the spinner ?

Ill have to wait for my boards to arrive to try it.

Any other suggestions ?

Plug-in question:
The 1069 in one uses a Celeron and a hard disk?
Does that one run MAME?
Does it have legal licenses?
Can I thus buy it, and use the HD in my PC?

Yes, although I dunno about the exact nature of the processor.
Does that one run MAME?
Yes, against license and wishes of MAMEDev.
Does it have legal licenses?
Nope.
Can I thus buy it, and use the HD in my PC?
Besides not being licensed, also remember is older version of MAME, etc.

From what I understand they run a custom chipset and are programmed to output at a certain frequency, so a direct HD swap is unlikely.

I had a look at my 60-in-1 this morning and it does have two headers (in addition to the connection via the JAMMA harness), but I couldn't find the manual and I don't have a functioning spinner sitting around right now.

Sorry.

If you can hook up a TB, you should be able to hook up a spinner, as both (usually) use the same quadrature signal.  (I'm assuming standard arcade TB's and spinners, not ones with special boards.)
Again, if the hacked mame can see the TB, a spinner should work, but  :dunno

The question is whether a TB & a spinner can be hooked up at the same time (as Cheffo's hint at two headers might mean), or if a switch is needed and both the spinner and TB needs to be wired to the same header.

Let us know how it turns out.

No man.  Seriously never heard of it... and not sure why you would want one with cheap PC's and MAME?

I thought about using MAME...

But i didn't want to go threw the hassle of setting up arcade vga and getting a computer, setting it up, configuring MAME.

This i very easy to setup and enjoy.  My next project, i may get a MAME system up and running.

I hear ya.  Sounds like a great cost effective way to get into the hobby.  Hope all goes well getting the spinner up and working.
