Battle Box, my new desktop CP finished, and with webpage
« on: August 12, 2008, 02:40:43 pm »
After a long and hard time devoted to designing and building it, it's finished and working. I wanted it big, heavy, and, above all, comfortable and ergonomically perfect. This time I've tried to put some extra effort in details too. Aesthetically I wanted something serious, technical and elegant. As regard the selection of components, I wished comfort and maximum precision, specially with shoot'em ups. In this sense, the Suzo stick is the star.

I'm sorry the webpage is in Spanish. There are two versions: a full version and a summary of it. The different chapters tell about the box, the paining, the electronics, the design, the stick, etc. There's also a final part with my thoughts about design of CPs. If you need any information about any issue about the panel or the making of it, please tell me.

I hope you like it.

This is the url of the webpage: http://www.alvarezeninternet.com/battlebox

And here one of the photos I've taken (drag and drop for full size view).

VERY NICE!!
One question though-  You used inserts to attach the bottom, why not use those same inserts to attach the joystick instead of having 4 bolt heads showing??(You can put them underneath or inset them ontop and cover them.

Ive noticed this on many setups, those bolt heads (in my opinion only!) take away from the smooth look.  Only metal CPOs really need to do that, but you have options with wood.

I know what your saying. On some CPs they don't look right but I personally think they work really well with the general theme of the CP. Seeing as the CP is quite plain (which isn't always a bad thing) I think they break up the expanse nicely.  8)

Yeah, I think the bolts look good on this one. It's called BATTLE BOX!

Very nice and proof that a clean finish is just as good as an artistic one; What's the surface/sides primarily made from?

It's just painted DM. As regards the visible bolts, they're not bolts actually, but plastic caps pasted on the heads of the screws. It was easier for me to have visible screws, and more secure I think. Moreover, I even prefer the look of the stick with the screws surrounding it, instead of the stick alone. At fist I thought of leaving the heads of the screws visible, but I found that kind of plastic caps wich worked great for a better looking finish.
