games list
« on: August 11, 2008, 06:06:40 pm »
ive put mala games list in mala but do i need to add all the vertical games i want to run to it?
or is there a way it can do it itsself?

how do i get mala to ignore things like dups and things in brackets ect like set 1, sega , biitleg ect?

i want mala so it shows only vertical games with no dupes and just games names.

ive made a list with romlister but when i point mala to the file it shows as all roms (with horisontal games in it)

ok, I really want to help with your issues with romlister, but you keep moving the discussion thread around on me! ;)

Steps to make a MALA list in romlister build 13 with only vertical games:

1) start romlister.
2) open tools and settings and build a merged file.  Tutorial is here: http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/RL_tutorial_merge
3) check the "vertical only" checkbox under monitor orientation.
4) press the "go!" button. - after a bit the "working list" dialog will appear with your roms in them.  Do a casual search through there to see if you can find any known horizontal games.  If you do, then there is something wrong and you should post the text from your -find window here for me to see it.
5) In the "working list" window, select mala gamelist in the dropdown box and press "save list to file"
6) a popup window appears asking for a name - give the list a unique title
7) select a file to save your list to.  Save it in your mala folder.

Now, in your mala folder, you should see a program called "malagamelist.exe"  launch that.
1) open the file you just created with romlister.
2) click on gamelist
3) go down to "remove brackets from name->All"  the rom names should now be cleaned up.
4) save the list and exit.

Now launch Mala
1) right click on the mala screen->select game list
2) find your new list there, and select it.

tada!
it does work-really.  I'm using romlister and mala and I have a vertical cab, and I just followed these steps and it worked as well as could be expected.

If you get different results, please post your exact details.

-jeff!

edit: changed "without vertical" to "only vertical"  oops!

I made a bunch of gamelists in romlister and stored them in a gamelist folder. Even though I set the directory in mala tree, it apparently didn't see the lists. All of my gamelists showed all games in Mala. I put the lists in the mala folder, and they work fine. I haven't had time to test it more to try to figure out the problem. If your gamelist is not in the mala root folder, try moving it there.
