Mala External Program Question
« on: August 11, 2008, 05:50:34 pm »
Alright,  I run MALA,  MAME and WinCab in my cocktail cab.  90% of the time I am using it as a juke box,  so it automatically loads MALA and I have to hit a button to load WinCab.  Is there any way I can automatically have Mala load WinCab without having to hit a button?

I already posted in the WinCab forum... and was suggested to ask here.

I'd PREFER to have WinCab load initially,  then configure a hotbutton in WinCab that would load Mala and when exiting WinCab have it shut down the PC OR load WinCab at start up and when exiting WinCab offer either to exit and shut down or load MALA...

Bottom line is I am trying to get WinCab to load at start up,  but still have a way to get in to MALA.

Sounds like you have mala set as your windows shell, and that's the reason for the difficulty? Assuming that's true, I created a plugin for launching apps on mala startup. Go to the mala plugin page to get it.

I do not have it shelled...just loads via STARTUP folder.  Will your plug in still work? And when I exit will it then load in to MALA (I am guessing).

Why don't you put WinCab in your startup folder then? My plugin basically reproduces the startup folder functionality, (startup folder only works if explorer is the shell). My plugin works regardless but I don't see any benefit in that case. I think I must be misunderstanding your problem.

And when I exit will it then load in to MALA (I am guessing).

Not sure what you mean by that.

If I put WinCab in my startup folder,  that works great for WinCab....

...but what if I want to get in to MALA/MAME?  Exiting would shut down the computer...or exit to windows.

If WinCab had a way to launch external programs,  it would work fine that way,  but from my understanding,  it doesn't (I have posed the question in the WinCab forum).

I think I am confusing people.

I simply want WinCab to load first OR MALA to load then automatically load WinCab.  HOWEVER,  I still need to be able to access MALA from WinCab either by quitting or by launching somehow from within WinCab.

Right now I have MALA load first then I have press a button to access WinCab... is there any way to simply automate that process (load MALA then have MALA automatically load WinCab so when i exit WinCab it drops back to Mala).

My plugin will do that. Anything you put in the plugin's launch folder will be executed once mala has started up. I think I'm not confused now? :dunno
