Customizing Mala Jukebox layout
« on: August 08, 2008, 09:02:44 pm »
I made a Jukebox layout but can't get it to show up in mala jukebox menu. Since jukebox is built into mala I am not sure what to name the layout for it to recoginze? I tried jukebox but that didnt work.

Got your PM, but had rather handle it here in case I am wrong about anything:

I just did a test.  I created a layout, named it jukebox, and Mala used it.  I am wondering if perhaps you don't have the setting checked that tells Mala to automatically change the layout based upon the emulator name.  See the screenshot below.  Also make sure that your layout is in whatever folder you specified (again, see the screenshot) so Mala can find it.

The thing is that I dont have jukebox setup as a emulator. Its gets enabled through sound and msuic tab.

Is this a case where the jukebox function is tied to the default mame layout? If so is there a way to create a jukebox as "other emulator" and somehow set it up to function like the jukebox function in Mala?

You don't set it up as an emulator.  I only enabled it through the sound and music tab just like you did.  Did you try what I posted?

Yes I have that checked. It works for all my layouts except jukekebox. My jukebox layout seems to use same layout as mame. Mame is not defined as mame in layouts. I assume because Mala treats mame differently then "other emulators"

I know Mala will use the default layout if it cannot find a specified layout.  My mame layout is named mame and my jukebox layout is named jukebox.  Is your mame layout, juke box layout, and other emulator layouts all in the same folder?   If you have the layouts in a subfolder, do you also have an additional Mame layout in the Mala main folder?  You're not using TREE view, are you?

NO I am not using Tree layout. My mame layout doesnt say mame. I think it uses standard.mll.

The way I have it is this. Inside mala/layout/ there are subfolders with names of each emulator name. Except I dont have one for mame. I do have one for jukebox.

I notice you have "Use layout names for directory names" checked and I do not.  When I check it, it fouls up every one of my layouts.  Can you try unchecking that?  Unchecking it may cause Mala to be unable to find your Mame layout, I don't know.  But if it does, you may have to rename your standard layout to Mame.   I hope you have a backup of your Mala folder in case we foul things up with this experimentation.

No that wasnt it. I found out what was the issue. My standard.mll was what I was using for my mame. Its blank theme with maquee, snaps, control panel etc. I used that for my jukebox and I inserted an image of a juke box in the layout. I inserted the pic of jukebox as definable 1. It showed up nice in malalayout program but when I ran the picture of jukebox was left out. Thats why I got confused. Mala is working right and seleting the jukebox.mll the right way.

So now I have an issue with getting jukebox picture to show up. If I insert the image as a background it stretches the image to fit entire background. What would I have to do to make a 800x600 background with the jukebox placed on the right of the layout?

I will enclosed my layout and picture so you can see what I mean.

I think most people would just create a blank 800x600 background image, then paste the juke box image onto it.  Move the juke box where your wanted, then resave the background image such as below:

How did you move it around? In Mala layout or a photo program?

MSPAINT.  I'm just saying customizing the whole background image like you want it before importing it into the Mala layout editor is the best way to do it, IMHO.
