Worth Buying?
« on: August 07, 2008, 09:58:29 pm »
I recently met someone who lives just near me who is selling an original 6 player X-men arcade game for 150 dollars.  This version of the game is absolutely gigantic, it has 2 monitors and seperates into 3 seperate parts.

Not the actual cabinet but this is how big it is.

It is in working condition but both monitors need new monitor boards and asthetically it is quite beat up.  If I were to purchase it almost all of the art would have to be replaced and I have yet to find a site online that has art for the gigantic 6 player cabinet.  I have a feeling it would be worth it to buy something this rare but if I couldnt find the art anywhere I don't know if it would be worth it to take up all the space.  I also don't know if the price of the monitor boards would push up the price dramatically.  Any suggestions?

Hell yes you should buy it. If you dont want it, where is it located? I could come up with that kind of money pretty quick ;D

The monitors may only need a cap kit. You can bring some pretty bad monitors back to life.

No the boards themselves are actual gone from them, he had bought some new ones but moved them to new machines.  Any idea how much 2 of those would cost for something like this?

no enough to keep me from buying it if I had the room.

First off, missing monitor chassis on both monitors disqualifies a machine from 'working' condition.  ;)

If it is in as bad of condition you say, then I absolutely would not take on that beast. Where do you plan on getting the artwork from? Noone has it. Even if it were available, the art alone would set you back several hundred dollars!

In that shape, I would not feel bad at all about MAMEing it. That would make such an awesome MAME cabinet. You could fit a PC and several consoles in there. Talk about control panel space!

(Of course, the one caveat is whether you (A) have space and (B) can even get it through the door)

Crappy game. Requires no skill whatsoever. Just walk around and mash the buttons. IMO the fun factor to square footage ratio makes it not worth it.

If you have to ask then the answer is no.

A friend of mine bought a sit-down 2d up scrolling flying game.  He paid only 200 for it and he thought it was a steal.  It was too big to fit down the stairs to the basement so it sat in his garage for two years, last month his wife made him clean out the garage so she could park her new car in it, so now it's in the shed.

We played it once the night he bought it.  We didn’t even fire it up before moving it to the shed so we don't know if it still works.

I'm guessing it’s two maybe three shots of whiskey away from being part of his 4th of July bonfire next year.

Maybe someone should part that out before then...

You know what would be neat, buying it, gutting it, and making it a generic Jamma cabinet. Have a jamma harness connected to each monitor so you could plug in two games at once. Use one monitor with 4 controls for one of the Konami 4 player games, and put a regular two player game on the other side.

Yep, it's just a generic quarter sucker.  Never gets harder or easier.

What can you expect from a license based on a cartoon though?  Its purpose was to get little kids who liked the show to play.  I would also like to say that I would get that cab if I could.

If you like the game sure otherwise it would seem hard to mame.  Sure you can fit more controls on the cp but the dual monitors and its overall size makes it silly for games like defender.

Someone here MAME'd one of these with a shark theme. He hasn't been active here in a long time, but I remembered because he bought a air hockey table off me.

And the worst part? Suits00's control panel is STILL wider then the 6 player Xmen cabinets

I heard that Suits00's last control panel design was too small, so he donated it to Habitat for Humanity as a roof.

I heard that Suits00's last control panel design was too small, so he donated it to Habitat for Humanity as a house.  3 families now live comfortably inside it and have added running water and full electrical in the last month.

Eh, you guys are making "tommy" threads all over the place, I'm just commenting on the newest threads available. If you do not wish to talk about this guy maybe you should stop making threads about him and leave me out if it.

It does appear to be true.
