So I'm 90% done with my cabinet.  I've got the control panel finished, and the whole thing assembled almost exactly to my original plans.  We're painting tomorrow, and I'm excited for it, except for one small problem.  My TV doesn't fit inside the cabinet.  Side to side it's fine, but it extends about a half inch to far in the back.  Short of taking it to a TV repair place to see if they'll decase it for me, I'm SOL.  I'll either have to get a new TV or revamp my cabinet in the back with some pretty awful post-construction fixes, but I'll see what I can do.  The thing that gets me the most is that it would have been fine, but I added in a recessed door frame at the last minute to help with stability and completely forgot how close I was cutting it with the TV already (which I had already planned for).  D'oh!  Aw well....I'll figure something out (I hope).  Just wanted to vent a little.

How thick is the wood?  You could cut out a section and fill it with mesh to provide a heat escape and regain the thickness of the wood as space behind the tv

Paint the mesh in black or the same color as the cab it would not look out of place, and how often will you see the back anyway?

I've always had my cabs straight against a wall, and never used doors on the back.  Sure, someone could peek in the crack and see inside, but it just never happened.

Another option is cutting the door (like suggested above) and putting a slightly bigger piece in its place that sits on top of the back planks. (See copyrighted figure below)

You don't necessarily need to fuly de-case it, just take a Dremel bit to the rear and remove the excess plastic.

So we're taking part of the back off with a dremel right now, but what parts should we be extra sure to stay away from?  I've read a lot about the charge staying in part of the TV long after it's been unplugged, but no one bothers to mention which part it is.  Is it more towards the front?

How are you even going to see what to stay away from if you are just dremmeling the back plastic?  Seems like a bad idea to me unless you are absolutely sure you are not anywhere close to the electronics.

You can see through the vents with a bright light, and straight down to the bottom from about 2 inches back it's perfectly clear of any electronics.  It's already been dremeled and will hopefully fit just fine, but I'd still like to be absolutely clear on what parts to stay away from at all costs.  There's a small square electronic chip at the back of the tube which has wires connected to it, and it's fairly close to the open portion of the TV.  It would just ease my mind a bit to know if the main source of danger was closer to the base of the TV where it would be difficult to reach (only the top-back corner of the TV has been cut out).

Shouldn't have to take a lot off anyway, and most TV's are just squared off at the back for aesthetics so with the tilt of the screen you should be well clear of thecap and you will probably find all dangerous/sensitive parts are metal shielded inside anyway.
