Hey, just wondering if any of you from sac or the bay area are coming to Reno for the weekend. We don't have a Fry's up here, and I would like to get a couple of their combo deals. Please PM if you are heading this way.

Thanks,
Paul

Gee why don't you hitch hike to www.outpost.com and get your own combo deals?

Thank you for the helpful and not at all condescending reply. Go ahead and take a look at outpost, if you see any combo deals, let me know. I have never seen any online; that is why I was asking for a favor from people who are near a B&M.

BASS!

  • Just have fun.

If I lived anywhere near Reno, I would totally help you out. On the other hand I would totally recommend newegg or other online resellers if you need a good system combo. If you need any recommendations, I and many others would love to help you slap a build together in the Main section of the forum. Post away and we will help no prob:-).

Thanks. I usually do buy at newegg, and I probably will end up buying there this time. Fry's just has crazy cpu/mobo combos. Usually cheaper than newegg sells just the cpu. Right now, I am trying to decide if the e8400 is worth the extra $50 over the e7200. My budget is really tight, so that is definitely a determining factor. I could use some mobo recommendations as well. Which cheap ones will work well? I am seeing some of the 45s on newegg, have any of you had a chance to test these out yet.

Thanks for the help,
Paul

When there is combo sales on at Fry's, I go on their site and....whoa  :o  find them and order one.  One mind you as they usually have a one per customer disclaimer.  So to be complete, I emailed my buddy who works at the Las Vegas Fry's and asked him if there was any combo sales, and guess what?

No.

I order from Fry's and have them delivered to my house in the US to be shipped to the UK, when the prices look very good.  So instead of asking kind folks to help you out, you can help yourself out and buy them when the offers are advertised.

About two weeks ago they had an AMD and ECS combo for $79.  But if I was you I would wait.  Its a buyers market right now.

Don't forget you can call the store and ask for any Manager's specials.  Plus you can purchase over the telephone directly with the store and have it shipped.

And before all of you guys out there start PM me.  I buy for myself only.   ;D

Fry's B&M has combo deals all the time; two of them that I want. I am not going to wait for Fry's to post one of their rare online combo deals when they have deals I want now. I do not understand why you would think it is a problem to ask someone a favor. It just does not make sense to me. If I was heading somewhere, I wouldn't have a problem picking something up for someone who doesn't have access to it.

I ended up about halfway to Sac today, so I decided to drive down the rest of the way to go to fry's. I picked up the combo deals and some other good deals they have going on. I asked them about calling in an order and having it delivered; they looked at me like I was crazy.

So, what does everyone else think? Is it reasonable to ask someone here for a favor like this? I figured if someone was heading up here anyway, they might be willing to stop at Fry's for me, then we could meet up here and play a few games or something. I am seriously at a loss here; I just don't understand how that could be offensive to someone. Especially someone who isn't even from the area in question.

Anyway, I will see some of you over in the 4ghz thread. I got an e8400 for the cab; this should be fun.  :D

I do not think this your post was offensive, just you being lazy.  I could very much understand if you were in a wheelchair or housebound.  We would all jump at the chance.

With the entire world at your fingertips and you want some kind soul to waste his gas getting you a combo deal, which newegg any other PC supply can sort for you was pure lazy.  I showed you a way to get your Fry's deals and you tried to make me sound like I did not know what I was typing about.

Its quite clear you are offended.

What's next?

You want someone to do your grocery shopping?

Fry's made it sound like you didn't know what you are talking about. The store I went to in Roseville told me that they don't do phone orders. Maybe Vegas is different, I'll check into it for next time.

How is it laziness to ask if someone is already making a trip to Reno? Fry's specifically had deals that I wanted to buy this weekend; Not online, not at at Newegg, only at Fry's B&M. No one responded saying they were headed this way so I got them myself. I didn't see a reason to make a 250 mile round trip if someone was already making the trip and didn't mind picking it up for me.  :dunno :dunno :dunno

I'm not offended; just surprised by your reaction.
