Yes indeed, it does have vacuum tubes! It uses a regular B/W RCA television set, including plastic case mounted in it. I have a one and a two player game. The game play is a lot like Asteroids. You are a ship floating around in space with two enemy ships trying to shoot you. You can control the direction and speed of your ship and when to fire at them. The enemy's pattern is random and they disappear off the screen and reappear in another place. The game play is timed. It only keeps score of enemy's hit, time you were hit, and time left in the game. That is my biggest beef - there isn't a high score to beat. The two player has a joy stick with a fire button on the top of it. I like this better than the one player that has all buttons. Fire, rotate, and thrust. I know that a lot of people dislike the game play, but they probably do not have one of their own. I enjoy playing them not just for the game play, but also for the looks and the history. I have seen a couple of these converted to other games.....made me want to cry
