Mala Gamelist + Screenshot collection
« on: July 19, 2008, 03:53:52 pm »
Would anyone be willing to post/supply their mala gamelist and screenshot collection? It would be nice if we could work together to compile comprehensive sets for the various emulators commonly used in a mame cabinet.

While it has been fun using utilities to make my own lists, I always need to adjust them after. And there's still the problem of the tens of thousands of roms to test-play and take screenshots of (really lame).

Q: Does anyone out there have/know of an extra clean assortment of gamelists, screenshots, sounds, intro vids, screensavers, etc that is so comprehensive that only a few days worth of tweaking is neccessary?

SIDE FACT: I modded my 1st xbox the hard way (compiling + burning xbox isos, finding + testing software from mIrc forums, HDD locking/swapping issues). Then Slayer made an auto installer. I modded my second xbox with this. I litterally soldered on the chip, put in the disk, chose the settings and was done.

So i'm looking for the cabinet equivalent of Slayer's autoinstaller. Something that does all the ground work, so your FE is beautifully layed out, treed, listed, matched with pictures, sounds, etc... So that the installer can focus on the smaller, more persoanlizing tweaks instead.

IT PROBABLY ALREADY EXISTS. But I'm just really lame... I searched the forums/web and only found more gamelisting utilities, individual layout downloads, etc. And the only promising torrent site refuses to register any of my email adresses.

I'm looking for some friendly guidance. Anyone got a sec?

You should be able to find that with a good search  ;)

Please excuse my ignorance, but, apparently, a good search does not produce what I'm looking for. Rom collections do have snaps, artwork, etc; but most importantly, they don't have well sorted mala gamelists.

I have been unable to find a collection of lists seperated into categories like vertical scroller, fighting, puzzle style, "classic," flying, action/adventure, etc.

If anyone has the complete mame rom set (like I do), has taken the time to create a similar grouping of gamelists, and is willing to share; will you please contact me or post a link so that everyone can benefit? Thank you

I'd be happy to post my mala gamelists, as I'm sure others would as well, but here's the deal:

My machine is cocktail, vertical monitor, 3 buttons+U360 per player.  The focus of my gamelist is having the ability to support cocktail screen flipping mode and/or 2 player simultaneous.

Your machine probably isn't the same as mine, so my gamelist on your machine wouldn't make a lot of sense on your upright machine (I assume you have an upright).  Likewise, someone who has a machine with a 2 player, 7 buttons, horizontal monitor, trackball and dedicated 4way stick's gamelist wouldn't make much sense on your machine if you only have 4 buttons and an 8-way stick with a spinner.  See where I'm going here?  We'd love to help out and post that stuff, but our machines are really pretty customized.

So, this post of mine is not only an explanation of why you're not getting the feedback you wanted, but also a great opportunity for a shameless self plug for....

ROMLister!  :)

http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister

This app will get your gamelists in shape in a hurry.
Just plug in the controls/monitor setup you have, and the type of games you want and make a list.

You want the classics?  Append a "& <year>198" to the -find box and have it pull up only the 80's games.

This won't help with your screenshot collection yet, but if you have a full set of snapshots, you can make romlister create a batch file for you to move/copy your snaps over into your mame folder easily enough.

How do you get a complete mame rom set? I have just been downloading individually.

I bought it for $30. 11 DVDs (5 roms etc, 6 CHDs etc). I think the discs were dual layer (quoted at 21 DVDs of stuff)

And to NOP: sorry that I wasn't specific enough. I have a 2 player, 6 button (Street Fighter 2 config) and a regular horizontal 4:3 19" CRT Monitor.

Does anyone have gamelists that would work according to these settings???
(Maybe even Hyperspin lists...)

have you tried ROMLister?

Really, the list(s) you're asking for is about 6 button clicks away with that app.  Make your own, you won't regret it, and you won't ever have to argue over what constitutes a classic.

No I haven't. Thanks for pointing it out: it looks perfect. Very user friendly interface and straightforward directions in the wiki.

Should work, I recon.

(But seriously, thanks)
