feedback on Control Panel layout?
« on: July 07, 2008, 03:40:37 pm »
Hi,

Building my first arcade... I'm looking for feedback on the following Control Panel layout:

Any opinion/advice would be appreciated...

Thanks!

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Looks great. If you plan on playing Golden Tee or similar games, your 4-way stick or spinner might be in a bad spot.

Not bad... I wouldn't try to mirror the P1 and P2 admin buttons
like you have though ... keep the same order for both:

P1 start, P1 coin, P1 pause  and P2 start, P2 coin, P2 pause

not

P1 pause, P1 coin, P1 start adn P2 start, P2 coin, P2 pause

also, how are you going to Esc out of it?

Thanks for the prompt replies!

Good point about the mirroring, I'll have to consider both options. It might look a bit weird without the mirroring due to different button colors, but it might be more intuitive.

I also have an Admin panel sitting below the monitor that will have 3-4 buttons, Exit, List, Emulators, volume, and perhaps a Pause button if I remove P1 Pause and P2 Pause from the CP itself. There isn't really a need for a P1 and P2 pause, I just liked the way it looks :)

I'm not planning on playing any Golden Tee, but I'm also not too familiar with what "similar games" are available. What other games could this cause a problem with?

Thanks again. Let me know if you can think of anything else I need to consider.

Cheers,
JC

Anything where you slap the trackball in a fast, forward motion.

If you're using Ultrasticks, you could always ditch the dedicated 4-way to save space.
