Keywiz Problem - Key stuck
« on: July 05, 2008, 10:12:58 pm »
Hey guys,

just wiring up a keywiz into a cp for my mame cab.

when the pc loads to mala the down key is stuck and is scrolling downwards thru the menu.
it does this even when there are no sticks/ buttons wired into it.

i've tried it on 2 pcs and the 2nd test pc gets the kb error when a key is held down.

i also tried switching to the kb passthru and that stops the scrolling,
but when you switch it back to kw - the scrolling down starts again.

has this happened to anyone and they have fixed it?
or is my keywiz dead?

cheers!!

Two things I would check: first off, double and triple check your wiring. Perhaps you have grounded something you shouldn't have.

Secondly - do you have a joystick connected to the upper UDLR? If not, leave the upper U disconnected.

Good luck!

If you still don't get it working, I would contact Randy - he's great with support.

thx for the quick reply.

i did re-check my wiring.

i also removed everything - so just the keywiz itself was plugged in.

and it still sticks the down key.
i have just email GGG too.

Did you accidentally connect to the NC (Normally Closed) terminal instead of the NO (Normally Open)?
Donkey Kong High Scores:
1): 49,500
2): 35,600
3): 30,100
4): 29,400
5): 28,200

Do you get an error that looks like this?  I'm also experiencing erratic mouse behavior, but haven't narrowed down if this is due to Mala or due to moving the mouse while the KeyWiz uploader is doing the "evil eye"effect.  Do you have a trackball hooked up as a mouse in your setup?

sounds like a bridged solder joint on the board. Did you do any soldering on the board?

csa3d - no, the uploader just times out and doesn't connect.
also i don't have a mouse plugged in at all.
and i have tried it on my 2nd machine which doesn't have mala on it and the same occurs.

ringram - i haven't soldered the board at all - it just has screw terminals.

PS: i have bought another keywiz - but would like to see if this problem is fixable.

Does this happen outside of Mala? I would fire up notepad and see if it does the same thing. Sure sounds though like it's a problem with the Keywiz unit itself. Is the main chip socketed? If so, try and re-seat it. I would also look on the board itself and see if you see any solder joints touching.

spoken to Randyt in regards to this and it seems the chip may have been damaged by static or by being in storage.
