OK so I have searched and searched for this topic and maybe (OK well probably) I'm just a dumb@#$ but what file exactly do I need to access to turn the trackball on?

I am running the Binary v. 124 of MAME.  I dont see any files marked as .ini and the only thing close I've seen is something under my docs folder called config, but seems to be just an informational text file rather than a working .ini file.

Can someone please provide folder by folder instructions (MAME folder is on my desktop) on how to access this file so I can play trackball games?  Simpsons bowling anyone?

Many thanks in advance

mame.ini.  It should be in the same folder as the MAME executable.  If you don't see one, try running "mame -cc" to create a default config.  Then edit it and look for the 'mouse' setting and change it to 1.

wouldn't you be better off with the self extracting mame which is already compiled ?

http://mamedev.org/downloader.php?&file=mame0125s.exe

Yeah, that's what the "Binary v. 124 of MAME" is.  The link you provided is for the MAME source code BTW.  :)

OK there is no MAME .ini file.  So how do you run "mame - cc"?

lets see if i can make a come back !

go start run and type cmd and that will bring up a black box it will already be saying

C:\Documents and Settings\David>   so what you do is type cd desktop and that brings you to your desktop and then where ever mame is so cd mame and then you type

mame - cc

mame - cc

No space between the - and cc

so it's mame -cc

whatever...I'm worthless, I dont even know how to perform a run function from start.  I can however, access the cmd prompt from all programs - accessories.  Is this the same thing?  If it is I have no idea what I'm doing but I tried those commands in the cmd black box and got nothing.

I wish this s$$$ was a little more user friendly.......but then again I suppose it wasnt developed for guys like me.
