Well, Im about to start a new project to add to my ever growing arcade collection, I am building a Dedicated Dreamcast Cabinet out of a converted Missile command, I bought this machine from a local dealer for 50 bucks someone converted it to a Trojan, I bought the cab with a blown monitor and board.

The cab itself is pretty solid. I am planning on going for an All White cabinet with Orange T-moulding, I am going to do Sanwa Joys with Black Happ pushbutton's, I have HarumaN doing some DC controller hacks for me, and I ordered a DC AV to arcade monitor cable from Ultimarc I completely stripped the cab tonight. Here is a before pic ill get some more tommrow.

Finally an Update with pictures, I have the Cab painted, t-moulding installed. I went with a 20inch TV for the meantime, untill I decide on what arcade monitor to get. This week I am going to mount the hacked dreamcast controllers and build the Control Panel. I plan on either Airbrushing or getting dreamcast decals for the sides and having a dreamcast marquee made.

Wouldnt a 20inch pc monitor be the better choice? Won't it get a better picture and cost less than getting the arcade monitor?

we will see how the TV is, as I am trying to keep this build under $200 and a monitor will affect that.

I'd check your local craigslist. Lots of people are upgrading to LCD monitors, so there are usually pltnty of cheap or free CRT computer monitors on craigslist.

Hey, that's the same TV I used for my Dreamcast Cocktail table (see project announcments).

The S-Video is pretty good on it, but it has some really annoying overscan.

Have you noticed that too?

no I didn't notice anything i've only played giga wing once on it, I used the tv in my bedroom for a while figured it would be a good candidate

wont work with pc monitors according to the description, can't can purchase VGA boxes for the DC? here's the one I ordered

You can hack your own VGA output from the dreamcast (http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/dreamcast/dreamcast_en.php) which is basically what the VGA boxes are. If the cab is dedicated to dreamcast, why not go with a PC monitor and get the true resolution out of it?

Cool, I see im not the only one making a dreamcast themed arcade cabinet.
Here is a link to mine. I would recomend getting a computer monitor only if you can find a freaking huge one. The resolution of the dreamcast through VGA is mind blowing. My brother has a tv in his cab and its almost imposible to play Ikaruga because the resolution is so bad.

I saw your cab on youtube, looks great!, what did you use for a monitor? I can get a 21 inch pc monitor I think for free. but i dont know if it's gonn fit since it's so bulky.

I've got this 36" Gateway Destination monitor (max res 800x600) waiting to be used in a DC cab... someday... Got my hacked controls.. Got my controls... Got my games and an extra DC... ALL I need is money and time

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. mako, I really like the top slot for putting in the VMU... Very cool.

my friend has one of those as well, and is in the process of building a showcase cabinet for it. it is an awesome monitor..the only problem is, he built a stand for it, and a control panel, so now it is playable, so very little progress is being made on the cabinet.

to get back on topic, i love the color scheme on that cabinet. a dedicated dreamcast cabinet is an awesome idea..i'd highly reccomend going with a pc monitor and vga adapter, the picture quality is amazing. although there are a few games that don't support the adapter, so be prepared for that. (MK Gold comes to mind)

If you want to play a game that is not compatible with VGA, you should still be fine if you get a box with a swithcer between VGA and S-Video. If your video device supports both then you could plug both cables in and freely switch between them.

so I got my ultimarc dreamcast arcade adapter today, I hooked it up to my golden axe cab so I can get an idea of the quality, and WoW MVC2 looked sick on the arcade monitor.

Awesome! Glad to hear it worked out for you. Sould Calibur is a real treat, as well!

Rez and Jet Grind Radio still hold up to today's systems graphically when you use the VGA box IMHO.

more updates, Installed a 21 inch computer monitor, I ordered a VGA box for the DC, built the Control Panel and drilled my button's. Ran into a few issues with the monitor first off being too tall and second for too deep, both issues we fixed. We turned the back into a handle pretty slick and it worked great. I should be done by next weekend. it's 93 degrees out and too hot to work on it

wired up the joysticks, My VGA adapter came in yesterday. I tested soul calibur on the PC monitor, looks damn nice!, thanks guys for the info definitely better than the tv.

Very cool project in the works and yes, long live the DC. How do the L and R buttons work now that they aren't analog? Any games you want to play analog joy or buttons?

The L & R buttons simply act like digital buttons. There are very few DC games that make exclusive use of the analog joystick.

Yup... although there are homebrew 'compiliation' disks that have multiple DC games on one CD...
