Making a fruit machine, any ideas?
« on: June 27, 2008, 03:35:29 pm »
I decided I would like to make my dad a "fruit machine."  He has been really playing a free online slot machine a lot lately and really enjoys it.  I am getting good at my mame machine so this shouldn't be too difficult.  I would like to know if anyone has similar setups or websites with info.

I would like to make him a bartop unit and wondered if anyone had a similar project?

I messed with the fruit machine emulator and don't really know if it's what I am wanting.  I think it looks too small on an average computer screen.  Is there a program that shows the reels and such bigger?  Also I don't need it to display the whole layout, just the reels and stuff.  He plays goldenpalace.com so I am thinking a layout like that would be ideal.

Basically, the ideal setup would be, he turns the machine on, it starts the slot program, he can select different games, then play them with slot machine style buttons.  It needs to be pretty easy to use/navigate since he doesn't really do the computer thing  ;D

Thanks!

Rather than deal with emulators, look for a slots program on CD... there will usually be lots in the bargain bin at your local Best Buy.  You can even find "official" versions of the Monopoly slots and such.

Do you definitely want to make it? You can get skill stop refurbs for a couple hundred bucks.
I was never into casino stuff, but I've seen them at lots of gameroom shows. Google "slot machine" and hit the shopping tab. A couple pages in you'll hit tons of stuff.

Here's what you are looking for:  http://www.masque.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?action=SERVE&item=slotswms.htm

I'm all for making your own and not restoring them.  It's a lot easier to maintain a PC than a machine you know nothing about.  Plus, you can say that YOU build it from scratch!  :)

Good luck!

That looks great delusional.  It looks like just the ticket.

As to why I thought about making it instead of buying, basically I have the stuff to make it, and it would cost me whatever the buttons, wiring, and software would cost.  I really think I could build this for around $100.

I have a el cheapo e-machines computer that really isn't good for anything else (much too slow) minus hard drive, a 20GB hard drive, an old monitor and some other stuff.  I figure this way I will get a bit of wood working skills and it will play several slot machines instead of just one.

I'd pay good money if I could find a Dr. Who fruit machine here in the states...
Almost had one shipped over in a container but the deal fell through  :(

When I hear the term "fruit machine," it conjures up the visual image of a claw machine game filled to the brim with fresh produce...

That does look nice.  A lot better than all of the fruit machine emulator's I've tried.  I wonder how you'd get around using a mouse to press the various buttons so you can use your own installed buttons instead.  Anyone know if the program has an option for that?

Dizzle, I wondered the same thing, it would be nice if it will let you use your own buttons.  If not I can always hack a marble mouse (like a small trackball) into the panel.  I'll let you know once I get it if no one chimes in.

I just bought this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110264686135

I will set them up to run without having to put the cd's in each time.  I forget how but I believe it was in Saint's book, so I can look it up.

the easiest way to do this is with a touchscreen. then add some buttons on the bottom  basically administrative. return to game list, list up, list down, start game.

all the wms gaming slots should work just fine. just touch the screen and go.
