Leaf buttons -how to light up?
« on: June 04, 2003, 09:58:37 am »
Of course not the solid one - unlike the Happ microswitches they are much to thick to let anything shine through ;)

I've two translucent ones, but not the special holders (only the standard ones that came with the solid buttons).

Anyone has a picture / could explain how this is supposed to work?

Never, I love the original leaf switches! :D Have tons of Happ microswitch-buttons, but only used one so far for the pinball-plunger.

I have a NARC cabinet with lit up translucent Leaf buttons. I'll look tonight and report back here how they are lit. Unless someone else comes along with the answer first.

Wico makes a leaf switch button holder that has a mounting spot for a lamp. I'm not sure what size lamp the mount is for. Birdtails could probably give you the lamp size. To my knowledge there were never any old school translucent leaf switch buttons that had an actual lamp or led inside the button itself. I've always seen the lamp mounted next to the button. Most of the old Williams games like Sinistar,Robotron,Narc ect.. had the lamp mounted next to the button and if my memory serves me correctly the lighted buttons on those games were fairly dim because of this very reason. They did show up better if the arcade room was nice and dark though 8)
Heres the Wico holders.  http://www.wicothesource.com/new2/pages/page87.htm

The NARC cabinet does indeed have the lamp mounted on a "L" bracket next to the button bottom.  The bulbs say "GE 44" on them.

Thanx - that was why I wondered, as holding the button in to light didn't show that much brightness. Anyway, best is to play in the dark I guess. :)

Does it looks just like a "normal" lightbulb as used in e.g. coindoors?
