To de-case or not? That is the question.

So this summer I am going to build a new cab to fix the small things that have been bugging me about my first scratch built cab. I have an 8 year old 27" TV that works great. I would like to secure it better to the cabinet so I thought I might de-case it and mount it. Keep in mind that the only reason would be for mounting, I do not have any space issues.

Should I de-case?

Do I need to discharge it if I am not messing with anything but just to mount it? This part scares the bejebus out of me. But just curious..

What about just cutting off the front 3 inches of the shell so I can mount it?

Anything else?

If you're scared to mess with a de-cased TV, and you have room for the case, keep it.

The TV won't go anywhere. If you plan on moving the arcade, just pull the TV out.

I have recently decased a 27" Toshiba (cant remember model number but it was a 2005 flat screen model (flat screen not flat panel).  I too was worried about it during the process based on everything I had read but to tell you the truth it was really no big deal.  I just made sure I didnt touch the yolk or whatever you call it that protrudes from the back center of the TV.  In taking the case off you really dont even touch that part anyway and when I went to mount it (with help from my brother in law) we again made sure we didnt touch that part.  Really it wasnt that big of a deal. 

The TV sat unplugged for about 4 days prior to mounting it if that made a difference I dont know. 

The point is for me that without decasing it I would not have been able to fit the TV in my Midway styled cabinet.  And as a bonus I was able to use the pre-existing arcade monitor mounts (with a little modification from my brother in law).

My experience was the same, no big deal.

But if your tv fits just fine with the casing then I don't see the need to do any additional work with it.
