I've had my stand-up (eg. traditional) arcade cabinet for a while now but I'm lazy and don't like standing for long periods of time so I have two tall chairs (like barstools but with a back), but it's uncomfortable to sit on them because my knees hit the cabinet and I can't get close enough to the control panel.

Does anybody else have this problem or does everybody just stand the entire time when playing? :)

I'm thinking about moving my control panel box closer to the front of the cabinet but it's not going to look that great because there will now be a huge gap between the screen and the control panel box, etc.

You can either build a new panel and make it come out further, or you can look into buying a candy cab.

Thanks for the help.

I have a couple of ideas about what I can do but I was wondering what everybody elses opinions are and if they have the same problem, etc.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a tall stool with a back and my knees bump the cab as well. Still more comfy than standing for long periods of time.

My barstools are adjustable so I can get my legs under the CP if I want. Bigger problem for me is reaching the coin slot!

My control panel doesn't stick out at all, so I can't get under it in any way. Luckily the reach isn't too bad, but I've been working on a CP redesign.

You could redesign it. Or you could put a panel over the space. Or you could make it a cubby for drinks and stuff.

My local arcade has a dual "Lindburgh" cabinet designed for sitting down with your legs underneath the CP.  Works well, but if you *wanted* to stand and use it, you couldn't.

I designed most of the Turnarcades line-up with the standing/sitting versatility in mind. The 'Master' was modelled on the generic 2-player cabinets that graced so many arcades I went to growing up. Having the shallower control panel than the amerian-styled machines allows for a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing overhang that means you can stand closer to the machine without stubbing your toes, or sit on a bar-stool with your knees under the panel, meaning you arch your back less. Even the 'Mini' cabinet was designed with the cp height set so you could sit in a regular chair to play it.

Cut a few inches off the legs of your bar stool?
