Looking to buy a laptop
« on: June 17, 2008, 12:27:46 pm »
I am in the market for a laptop computer, new, not used.

Where do you think the best deals are?
I want something reliable and with a good warranty.
Are online dealers the way to go or do I watch for deals at local stores (BestBuy, Walmart, staples, etc.)

I will be using this for work related stuff as well as online usage, maybe some games.
I am will ing to spend around $1,000.00

Thanks for any advice or recommendations.

I bought my girlfriend an Acer Aspire laptop last month for her graduation.  The specs were very nice:

Core 2 T5500 1.66Ghz
3GB DDR2 667
320GB SATA HDD
DVD +- RW
X1300 inegrated video (I think)

It also had a nifty touch panel to the left of the keyboard for multimedia functions.

It is the speediest laptop I have encountered to date...and it was only $699 at Circuit City.

=)

Get a gaming laptop like a Asus F3 or a HP.  I saw a HP at a local Office Depot for $1400.  It was big mean looking and very fast.  You could run Crysis on it without breaking a sweat.

The Asus should cost about $1100.

Don't skimp on the laptop or you will be haunted with equal priced laptops with faster graphics and processors cheaper everytime you open the Sunday paper.

Avoid GMA 950 or X3100 graphics.

Its a buyers market right now.

The EEE PC is worth a look if your requirements are just wordprocessing and Internet.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.
